The Scott Gomez era in Montreal appears to be at an end.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, the Canadiens have told Gomez he will not be a part of the team this season. Montreal will continue to pay Gomez for the season and his contract will count against the team’s salary cap.

Gomez’s salary for 2012-13 is $5.5 million but carries cap hit of $7.357 million (based on an 82-game schedule).

    nice move bergevin

  2. doorman says:

If he gets injured then bergevin can’t buy him out, so that is the reason, imo

    • Trade Man says:

But this way that are going to pay millions for a guy to sit home. This is just like, if you stay at home and sit on the coach you will not get hit by a car.

  3. TimTheBone says:

Guess I was wrong about him

    • lafleur10 says:

tim what do you think of galchenyuk’s chance of sticking with us this year?

      • TimTheBone says:

Well i think he’d be best suited to play in sarnia the test of the year. Unless he’s really this crazy good 19 yearold kid… Some guys can do it….

But on that note, it seems the habs coaching staff seem to be playing Alex on the wing. It may appear as we may have to search for that number 1 center still.

        • lafleur10 says:

i heard that therrien is going to play him at wing for a few days at camp then try him at center i think he should play the rest of the year at sarnia as well and come to camp next year and make the team then!

  4. lafleur10 says:

yes he is trade and his contract is too much for him to be a 3rd liner and he’s lost his talent and is no good anymore and i think playing him in the top 6 is a waste i mean he scores3 goals last year and it took him a full calendar year to score his 1st and you don’t pay a guy that scores 3 goals 7 million dollars and you don’t pay them to play on the 3rd line either there is no role on this team for gomez!

  5. Rangers are going to do the same thing with Redden, I believe. It’s not fair to the player, but with the minor league contract counting against the cap, richer markets can afford the buyout and save room next year. I feel sorry for Gomez, because he can’t even be buried in the AHL.

This is great! It’ll suck for a year paying him to sit at home but hey, no poin no gain.
