Here's a good piece on him.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2011/12/01/brophy_on_kadri/

Specifically this: "Just being able to recognize danger is the biggest change in my game," Kadri said. "Turnovers have been pretty bad news for me; especially in junior when I kind of did whatever I felt like doing. Since junior I'm trying to be more of a complete player and I'm limiting my turnovers. I'm starting to be less of a risky player and more of a reward player. It is tough to change. It has taken me some time to adjust, but I think each day I'm getting better. I just keep working hard and if I do that, things will pan out for me."

And for those that think he's not all there in the head (ie LeafNation)

"You just have to keep your head down and keep working hard," Kadri said. "You know, a lot worse things could happen to you. I'm in a pretty fortunate situation and I believe it will work out if I just keep working hard. I knew that from the get-go I wouldn't necessarily be called up if the Leafs had injuries so it really wasn't a surprise to me. Those are the guys who have earned those spots and they deserve to be in the NHL. They came down here and worked hard, just like I have, and they made some noise. They kind of forced the Leafs to call them up and that's the situation I'm trying to put myself in. I'm happy for those guys. They really deserved it. It's nice to see them succeed."

Yeah. I was thinking their were 3 years left after this one and it was 2/3rds of the cap hit not of the remaining salary. That makes more sense.

I'm not sure I agree. The best skill he has is his offensive vision and to me that implies that he knows the way the game is played.

I mean I do see what your saying and to a point I would agree, but I think its more implicit of a young player than a guy that doesn't think the game well. I've watched him a lot and one of the things he does well is think the game well. He's only played 33 games at the NHL level, I think its a little early to be saying he would be a nightmare to coach. Dallas Eakins spoke highly of him last year and he obviously transitioned well from the OHL to the AHL in his first season. The NHL side will come in due time.

Yeah Mojo but all of these gaps come in time. I mean yes we could bring him up the the NHL level and let the media poke holes in the kids game but right now there is no need for it. Remember reading a comment from a NHL scout about star players.

"Most star players dominate at every level they play at, so if a prospect comes in dominates the OHL, moves up and dominates the AHL chances are he is going to have the confidence to do so at the NHL level."

So at this point for the sake of Kadri's career I say let this kid tear up the AHL build some mad confidence and say around Early January reward him with a stint in the NHL. If Kuelmin is still having a slump then maybe bringing up a young stud like Kadri and putting him on that wing will make Kuelmin work to get his position back. (Although I still say Kuelmin breaks this slump soon.)

to elaborate -

At the AHL level his positional play doesn't make a difference because he's just so much quicker and more skilled that it doesn't come back to haunt him. At an NHL level I believe it still would at times. Not saying he's not a great prospect, clearly the talent is there, but I think he has a lot to learn about the game.

Its kind of like when that kid drops out of rep and plays house league. Even though he was kind of marginal in rep, and maybe got caught running around a lot, in house league the pure skating ability is enough to overcome any holes in his game.
You're not taking his "head not being screwed on" in the right context. I'm suggesting that he doesn't understand the game. No doubt he has raw skill. But he would be a nightmare to coach.
Its 2/3's of the remaining money owed to him, spread over twice the amount of years.

So after this season, because it was a back-loaded contract (he earns only $4 mil this year and $4.5 mil in the final year) he will be owed $8.75 million over the next two seasons. Let's just round it up to $9 million, because 2/3's of that is easy, it would be $6 million to buy him out, divided by 4 years, which would be roughly (a little less than) $1.5 million per season. Not ideal, but maybe better than the $4.25 cap hit is worth to them.

I don't agree with buyouts if there is another way, but I'm just saying it would be an option.
