Canes fine with 2nd pick?
Canes won’t try for No. 1 draft pick
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CP) – Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford insisted Thursday the frenzied trade talks involving Florida and the No. 1 draft pick will not affect Carolina’s game plan.
Whether or not Rutherford was wearing his best poker face, he said the Hurricanes are just fine with the second overall selection in Saturday’s NHL entry draft (TSN, 1 p.m. EDT) at Gaylord Entertainment Center.
“We sit in a good spot because we have three players that we like and by picking second we will get one of those players,” Rutherford said Thursday at a hotel. “The Florida Panthers obviously control things by picking first but we don’t mind our position.
