i have to say k lowe was bang on in saying burke left nonis with nothing. and now gillis is picking at the scraps. really this is why the canucks are so thinned out.

he made a big splash getting the sedins, but funny enough those were really the only two picks who really turned out in his time there.

only one player picked by burke outside the first round made it and that was bieska.

in the 2000 draft, the players picked by the canucks combined for 30 games. in 2002, they combined to play 1 game.

they had no 1st rounder in 02, they never got to use umberger and nathan smith was a major 1st round bust.

really in 6 drafts he picked up for the team 6 players only. sedin, sedin, bieska, kesler, edler and schnieder. schnieder hasnt played yet. edler is just a rookie. pretty sad if you ask me.

his best work came via trade getting jovanovski in the bure trade, getting morrison in the mogilny deal and of course getting both twins. but that was really it. he never got them a goalie as cloutier wasnt good enough and he just couldnt get the team over the top. in the end, they had nothing.

i feel bad for the canucks and luongo especially. his talent is being wasted. and of course their tragic loss of bourdon. hopefully the organization can get through and have a good year in his memory.

hopefully bernier will be a good fit with the twins. now they need some players to join wellwood on the 2nd unit.

they should have a good 3rd unit with burrows, kesler and pyatt. some may be promoted to 2nd line duty if the team doesnt get another couple of scorers.

they have a ton of role forwards. johnson, hordichuk were brought in. cowan, pettinger, rypien, shannon, jaffray, hansen, brown are all going to be in that mix as well.

they have decent forward prospects now. grabner, hodgson, white, raymond (who might be a regular this year) are far more than what they've had.

but they do need immediate help. gotta believe demitra is in the mix if sundin declines the 20 mil. thats really about it though from free agency.

they dont have enough assets to make a trade. unless they move a Dman like bieska. but they're thin back there too and with the injuries that ravaged them last year, they need all the bodies they can keep. they have salo, ohlund, mitchell, krajicek, edler, baumgartner and bieska. no one else really capable of helping immediately.

really they have to hope again luongo can win every game 2-1 or 1-0

I would not complain, the trade they did make is better than that. You keep the first and Bieska, only giving up a second and a third. Buffalo kind of got ripped off there.

Sorry to say but Stamkos is already gone. And I don't think Vancouver is looking to do anything but make the playoffs this year.

Gillis just made a decent move, I think this is just a screen so that people don't think they are in the Stamkos sweepstakes. I bet Mr G. asks Luongo to play less games this season to "give Sanford some ice time/improve lottery position"
