Canucks possible big spenders

I am tired of people going on about how teams are to close to the cap and have no room to make any moves… YOU PEOPLE DONT UNDERSTAND THE CAP!

I have heard people say the Canucks have no room to make moves and this is simply not true whatsoever Nonis is sitting on a tone of money and this is why.

INJURIES!

Willie Mitchell 15 games

Marc Chouinard has sat out 15 games

Sami Salo 10 games

Taylor Pyatt 5 games

and now we know Ryan Kesler is out for 34 games

All this saves Dave Nonis about 1.5 mil in salary space and puts the canucks cap at around 40.5mil leaving them with 3-3.5 mil of money to spend on deadline day and for that amount my friends you can get absolutly anyone in the league you want without giving up anything.

Peter Forsberg, Shane Doan, Ladislav Nagy

NO THE CANUCKS WONT GET ALL OF THESE PLAYERS!!

However these three players make roughly 11mil combined the canucks play 19 games after the deadline so in the new nhl a teams only pay players for those 19 games. if you have these guys playing for you on the same team on a nightly basis it costs you exactly $134146.34x that by 19 = $2548700.46. My point being if Nonis really wanted to he could pick up all three of these players and be at no risk of going over the cap.

This all being said here is what I think will happen

The Canucks need a forward and a dman and this is coming from Nonis himself. I personally think there is more to it than that. Nonis needs a dman because he could possibly be tradeing another. Sami Salo its well known that Philadelphia wants Salo and will be tendering him a hefty offer in the offseason.

my prediction Salo and a 2nd rounder to Philadelphia for Forsberg

but this will only happen if Nonis is able to pick up another defenceman

If a move cant be made for a dman Nonis will look at players like Smolinski,Sillinger and possibly Nathan Horton

The rumor is the canucks are after seabrook or stuart and belive me this would be to replace Sami Salo.

I await your thoughts on this and I wonder how many of you didn’t know about this extra cap space?

HAHAHAHAHA SALO AND A 2ND ROUNDER FOR PETER FORSBERG, WHAT A JOKE!

Philly will be demanding ATLEAST a good young prospect (not Sami Salo), and a 1st round pick. Anyways Forsberg said that he would only waive his no-trade clause if he goes to a contender, so that rules out the Canucks.

BTW what will happen to the cap when all of those players come back? The Nucks would be way over, sorry your "predictions" will never happen.

  2. PaulK123 says:

Also who would the Nucks give up for a good player without losing some of their core guys? Their tradable assets are their only good players. The only reason you guys are in the playoffs is because of Luongo. You guys need to re-build. I feel sorry for Roberto, he will not be on a contender during his pride.

  3. neilios says:

After last nights game on Sportsnet Connected it been reported from the Hockey panel that the Canucks and Bruins would be working on a possible deal that would see Stuart,Sturm, and Primeau for Mitchell,Bulis, and two 2nd rounders.Thats the word going around I seen the same possible deal in the Vancouver Sun last week too.I just dont know about trading Salo he is the best point man with the PP the guy has one of thee hardest shots in the game.

  4. BieksaForMVP says:

The Canuck's can b considered a contender when Forsberg is in the lineup… Not saying he will be though. I say if the Nuck's playyed your Leafs again right now, we would win 7-1. ANY TEAM IN THE NHL SHOULD BE ABLE TO BEAT TORONTO, AND EVEN RIGHT NOW WHEN THERE DOING GOOD.

  5. BieksaForMVP says:

yeah actually were in playoffs, and we might even win the division, so we need to rebuild? Yeah i think Toronto needs to abit more. WE HAVE BETTER PROSPECTS THEN TORONTO!!! GRABNER, SCHIENDER, BOURDON, EDLER, ETC. YOU GUYS JUST HAVE POGGE!!! no players who make a huge impact for the Canucks has a contract over at the end of the year (except Salo, but he;;l sign for like 2.0 million). We wouldn't be the same team without Toronto, but we would still be better then Toronto if we just had an average goalie.

  6. neilios says:

Hey paulK123 whos your team there fruit cake???You feel sorry for Luongo how come???The Canucks are only 2 points behind the Flames for 3rd spot in the West, and your talking rebuild your a stupid chit man the Canucks are a young team as it is man with the Sedins,Pyatt, and Luongo and all the other players are in there late 20s and early 30s like Morrison,Ohlund, and Salo and then they have a young Dman that will be dominent in Bourdon so I dont think there is no need to rebuild.

  7. BieksaForMVP says:

THAT TRADE WAS NEVER RUMORED!!! I LIVE IN VANCOUVER, AND WATCH SPORTSNET, AND READ THE SUN!!!

  8. neilios says:

and Pogge is sucking it up this year so he aint nothing compared to a Bourdon.

  9. Tachmo says:

Forsberg is risky and damaged goods. Plus he is a free agent after the year. Why would a team give up the farm for someone that might not even see the playoffs this year?

  10. PaulK123 says:

I was never saying that Toronto is a contender, I have stated we aren't a good team and need to re-build, unlike u. BTW without Luongo you guys would be screwed.

  11. PaulK123 says:

  12. PaulK123 says:

okay calm down buddy, we have white, tlutsy, bell, woznewski, steen, coliacovo, pohl, kulemin, williams, kronwall, and pogge. Do some research before u make stupid comments.

  13. PaulK123 says:

my teams is the leafs, i dont care flame me, i think they have some huge gaping holes, but that is just me. Looks like Cancucks fans can't take a tiny bit of criticism, cant wait until a Tsunami hits u!

  14. PaulK123 says:

ur probably a 13 year old loser with no friends sitting in your basement and thinking you are so cool by using caps on the internet. I bet that if me and you were face to face you'd have a different reaction.

That is just sad when a fan attacks a fellow fan, just shows the integrity of Nucks fans!

  15. muckies says:

I'm not a Cap expert but just because a guy is injured doesn't mean he doesn't count aginat the Cap.  Unless you get a long term injury exemption from the league, but if you are injured for 10 games, those 10 games count against the Cap.

But I could see him in Vancouver with Naslund

  16. jonnygf40 says:

I've never seen these rumors either.  Plus Mitchell just signed a 4 year contract….why would they trade him in year 1.  He and Luongo are the only reason their PK is #1 in the league.  Sure he cant score for sh!t, but thats not why they have him.  He will captain this team when Naslund leaves.

  17. habswinthecup-again says:

You are right about the injuries not counting unless long term. Kessler is the only player on the Canucks that will no longer count against the Cap (which equates to about700k). I really do not know why tis article was posted when there is obviously such a major mistake in it.

  18. habswinthecup-again says:

I was enjoying this little argument until you got stupid, grab a f*cking brain you idiot!

  19. BieksaForMVP says:

I was only saying the players who will be great players, but you didn't say any, except maybe Pogge, but he got picked in the 2nd round for a reason.

  20. CanucksforPM87 says:

you're a jackass.. of course we'd be screwed without bobby lu… New Jersey would be screwed without Brodeur, Calgary would be screwed without Kipper.. the whole idea is to build a team around a goalie and it works pretty well.. maybe JFJ will figure that out someday.. doubtful though

  21. Tuner44 says:

Perhaps i'm wrong but it is my understanding only games after the first 10 consecutive games are taken off the books.  So Pyatt and Salo's still count and because Mitchell came back to get hurtn agn in game 10 all his count.  Kesler is the only 1 who will be taken off after he has missed 10.  What makes this worse is the Nucks have used more salary replacing them giving them less wiggle room.  Please correct me if i'm wrong but i think you are drunk.

  22. dave1979 says:

PaulK123, you are a moron. I think you are just a bitter little man because your maplelaughs suck foreskin.

Toronto: 9th in the East. To bad there is only 8 playoff spots.  HAAAAhaaa

Vancouver: Beat down on Toronto SIX to ONE on Hockey night in Canada. That HAS to sting. BAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAH.

  23. nyrhockey094 says:

Paul you are a tool, Salo and a 2nd rounder might even be a little much for floppa. Hes OLD. HES INJURED. His contract expires at the end of the season. Philly has no bargaining power. None. I dont know much about Vancouver but I do know a bit about Salo, and him + a 2nd rounder is more then fair.

  24. nyrhockey094 says:

Moron, Steen, Coliacovo, Pohl and Kronvall arent *****ing prospects if they have established themselves at the NHL level. Stick your maple laughs and stop degrading a great franchise in the nucks who have a much brighter future then the asshole of canada.

  25. Libbs says:

    no class man….no class.

have a little respect would ya.

  26. vancity4life says:

theres no salary cap on the playoffs einstein.

  27. BieksaForMVP says:

wow PaulK123, i’ve never heard you critize someone on the site… I’m also probaly older then you too.

  28. BieksaForMVP says:

Also if i was face to face with you I would say "***** YOU ASSHOE, SHUTUP!!!", but since I don't know you I wouldn't say it, and i don't critize people on the website.

  29. broc says:

The hockey panel never mentioned that at all. I watched the whole damn thing. The only person mentioning those names every single damn day is Neilios.

I still lol when I see Bulis name being mentioned in a trade. His name is more like "Boo-Hiss!"

Neilios, stop spreading the same idiotic rumors that are never mentioned on TV, but instead manifest in your peering, grey matter. What there is of it NEWAYS! Zing!

  30. LeafsJaysRapsBillsManU says:

You do realize that Sami Salo is exactly ONE YEAR younger than Peter Forsberg, don't you? I'm sure if Paul Holmgren wants to get younger, it's going to be by more than 12 months. If a Leafs fan suggested Carlo Colaiacovo and a 2nd rounder for Forsberg, he would be flamed off of the board, but I guess if you're not a Leafs fan, you're immune to taking criticism for coming up with ludicrous trade possibilities. When the Ducks are offering Bobby Ryan, I'm sure Holmgren can wait to talk to Dave Nonis about a 32-year-old soon to be UFA D-man.

As for Brent Seabrook, Nonis might as well be asking for Tallon to throw in Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews while he's at it. That's not happening either.

  31. LeafsJaysRapsBillsManU says:

The Canucks are exactly 4 points a head of the Leafs in the standings. So if the Leafs "suck foreskin", I guess your Canucks aren't all that much better, are they?

  32. TheDugg1er says:

Salo may be a year younger, but most d-men play longer than forwards. Salo is also made of glass so I don't know. If Philly wants Salo, the trade is pretty fair.

  33. neilios says:

leafs and Flyers only wish they can have a Dman like Salo a cannon of a shot plays good in his own zone, and then maybe the leafs and flyers wouldnt be where they are if they had a Salo and thats the outside looking into the playoffs.

  34. vancity4life says:

    Vancouver 29-20-4

    Toronto 26-21-6

take away those OT points and van is then 8 points ahead of toronto, and vans points are in the west, not the east where each team pretty much has a guaranteed 16 points at the least from philly and florida. all van's wins are hard fought and the points are deserving of them. the OT losses were from sabourin, for who OT losses may as well count as wins, this is also in the ultra tight northwest division. the leafs dont suck foreskin, they just suck.

  35. JuiceBox says:

Obvioulsy Frezz YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE SALAY CAP,

first of all Taylor Pyatt has only been hurt for 5 games under the CBA it has to be 24 days or 10 games…so you got that wrong.

second if a player is hurt for that period of time such as Wille Mitchell for 15 games, the team has to put them on long term injury but when they come back from injury such as he has the salary cap kicks in again.

so you think that they have a ton of money to spend so when they go and get Nagy or Forsberg that is pretty much saying that none of there injured players are coming back because they would have to count against the cap and they would then be over the cap number. depending on your sources thcanucks are at around 42 to 43.5M for the cap….
