Caps Won the Ovechkin Lottery!
According to Letsgopens.com, ESPN Radio and Mark Madden, the Washington Capitals would’ve won the lottery for the 1st pick overall this morning. This is a huge blow to the Penguins organization & fans who were in dire need of superstar Russian prospect, Alexander Ovechkin to rebuild the team. Pittsburgh finished 30rd this year while the Capitals finished 28th.
This means that Pittsburgh move down to the 2nd draft pick and Washington moves up to the 1st while the Chicago Blackhawks moves to 3rd.
Alexander Ovechkin was said to be ”Head & Shoulders” above everyone else in this year draft according to Pittsburgh GM Craig Patrick.
The prospect currently ranked at #2 is Russian center Evgeni Malkin. Malkin, a six-foot-three centre with Metallurg Magnitatgorsk, is overshadowed by Ovechkin but “is a highly skilled, smooth skating, playmaking centreman” who has been developing at an accelerated pace in the last two years according to NHL scouts.
