This means Paul Kariya’s days with the Ducks are numbered. He could be dealt in March, or just signed by a team. Let me guess…the Blues!

  2. trademan says:

I agree. his days are numbered. He will be good playing with Oates though. Finally someone who can get the puck to him.

This guy is Aneheim, if you read the article on TSN, statistically speaking he holds every team record except shut-outs. He also has more carreer points then any player his age or younger in the league. I think him moving will all depend on how the summer signings turn out, if Oates and Sykora can get them into the play-offs, even second round Kariya may stay as that is what is upsetting him. If he had the choice he would stay if the team was competitive, so we will have to see what happens to them this year.

    its a 1 year 10 million contract!

  5. burky says:

Paul will return home to north van when the ducks are once again out of centention for the playoffs, he could play with his less-talented brother!

This would be my dream come true. Don’t know if Burke would take on that contract, even though Kariya would mean guaranteed ticket sales.

What do you think it would take to land him? I’d say it would take at least Ohlund, Schaefer/Druken, a 1st rounder and maybe a top prospect like Umberger.

It depends on the market, look what Jagr went for, three unproven players, if the market is low, or if he is walking as a free agent next summer then you move him for what you get. As far as the Canucks are concerned you are looking at Ohlund, Sheffer and a first rounder. Bure was not traded for much, the higher the contract the harder it is to trade a player. Who is left in LA from the Gretzky to St. Louis deal???

  8. Forsberg21 says:

Does anybody know if this makes him unrestricted after this season. All the sites have the same AP report. Usually when a player signs a one year deal after being restricted he is unrestricted after that one year contract expires. Could be an option year in there though.

  9. burky says:

well then tell ohlund and schaefer to pack their bags, I think Paul can earn back what he gets paid in ticket and jersey sales.

  10. bluntman says:

10 million dollars!!!!!!!!! for one season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for one player!!!!!!!!!!! Ducks, save that ten million and some more talent

  11. amok says:

Good point, but I’d still question whether Burke would want to add such a huge salary when he seems obsessed with keeping them low and having everyone making under Naslund.

Bure forced a trade but in the end the Canucks made out pretty well, although it was amusing listening to Burke tell everyone he insisted the Canucks get Dave Gagner. Sure, Brian, sure.

  12. amok says:

He certainly would fill GM Place a lot fuller than it’s been. And Burke’s always wanted to drive Schaefer to the airport. He’d probably pack his bags, too.

    Over-rated/Over paid.

Its Kariya contract that has limited the Ducks. They should trade him and get some draft picks and rebuild the right way.
