Trade Rumors: Eric Belanger to sign with Capitals, possible trade in the works
Just heard from Belanger's agent, Joe Tacopina, who said he can't confirm anything at this time about whether the free-agent center will be returning to Washington or not. More to come.
According to The Globe and Mail this afternoon, free-agent Eric Belanger will return to the Capitals once the team has completed another deal that is suspected to be a trade for a defenseman. More to come on this.

Trade Rumors: Steve Yzerman at least kicks the tires on Tomas Kaberle
Saturday could be a big day around the National Hockey league as it is the last day the Maple Leafs can trade defenseman Tomas Kaberle before his no-trade clause kicks in at midnight Sunday. There have been reports of as few as four and as many as nine teams involved in negotiations.
Given Tampa Bay's needs on defense, it is naive to believe general manager Steve Yzerman hasn't at least inquired about getting Kaberle into a Lightning uniform.

Trade Rumors: Simon Gagne moving to the Los Angeles Kings?
Just a quick update here, with the Kings now appearing to be falling out of the Kovalchuk sweepstakes it appears they are now making a play for the Flyers Simon Gagne.
Gagne’s agent has reported to ESPN that he has been given permission to talk trade regarding his client with the Kings. His $5.25 million cap hit would most definitely be more friendly to the Kings future cap situation with players like Drew Doughty coming up for contract negotiations in the next couple years.

Trade Rumors: Blue Jackets Rumors
Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson is hoping to add a puck-moving defenseman via trade, but he's not desperate to do so. Howson reiterated today that he's not burning up phone lines or begging his fellow GMs for help.
"We'd like to make an upgrade, sure," Howson said. "But if we don't get a deal done, I'm fine taking this group of defensemen into the start of the season with us. We think it's a good group; a group that can win games for you."

Trade Rumors: Writing's on the wall for Kaberle
As much as Burke loves Kaberle, and Kaberle loves the Leafs, all signs point to a trade
For public consumption anyway, it has been well over a year of mutual admiration and asserting that there is no need for the relationship to end.
Maple Leafs defenceman Tomas Kaberle has professed his love for all things Toronto — save the losing.
Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke has professed his love for all things Kaberle — save the fact that trading him might bring some desperate scoring help.

Trade Rumors: Burke ready to deal and has Savard in his sights
His seven prospects locked up in his suitcase as he returned to Toronto, Leafs GM Brian Burke set his mind on what will be a busy few days leading up to Thursday’s free agent frenzy.
First up is Marc Savard. The Bruins are said to be ready to ship their playmaking centre. The Leafs are in the mix, and the price tag is much cheaper than Thomas Kaberle.
This opportunity is an unintended consequence of the Phil Kessel trade.

Trade Rumors: Trade of Marc Savard may be Bruin
The names Tyler Seguin and Marc Savard may be inexorably linked now, and maybe not as fellow centermen on the Bruins.
As soon as Edmonton Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini announced his team’s selection of winger Taylor Hall last night at the Staples Center, it ended any suspense about which player the Bruins would get with the No. 2 overall pick.

In talking to people today, the Stars are indeed trying to move Mike Ribeiro.
They believe that if the Stars want to improve the team, they need to open up space in the budget (Ribeiro makes $5 million a year for the next three years) to acquire a defenseman, and they believe the Stars have replacements at center with Jamie Benn and Tom Wandell.
