Cheap and Good

After listening to CBA talks and how the owners want a salary cap between $30-35 million I though it was ridiculous. I thought no team could compete with a salary cap like that. So i decided to put together a team that could compete and have the lowest salary possible.

P.Kariya (1.2) – J.Spezza (.500) – M.Cooke (.525)

M.Svatos (.450) – H.Zetterberg (.625) – A.Frolov (1.075)

J.Cheechoo (.665) – S.Donovan (.752) – P.Schaefer(.600)

C.Clark (.700) – W.Walz (.850) – C.Neil (.575)

Jackman (.800) – M.Zidlicky (.500)

B.Sopel (.875) – N.Schultz (.600)

JM.Liles (.550) – A.Sutton (.775)

R.Esche (.560)

M.Gerber (.500)

I used UFA’s with their old salary like Kariya. If i have made a mistake, sorry.

$13.677 million

There may be many other and better options but I did this quickly and it is a pretty good team too with all the assets a team needs.

previous salaries are completely irrelevant when discussing building a team in the salary cap environment… the one necessity is obviously grandfathering into the period, but player salaries will normalize to the salary cap world and come down to make it work. it’s a completely different economic market, thus a completely different salary structure that will exist.

pretty good! unfortunately when contract time comes up for the guys on this team the payroll would skyrocket. Also Karya will make more then half of these players combined once he signs this year. Still an interesting piece.

You could always get a team of Alexander Karpotsevs, Alexei Zhamnovs, and Billy Tibbets and just pay them by the keg…

basically trying to build a team under a 35 million cap wouldnt be a hard as one would think. You wouldnt have to rely on young underpaid (by the here and now standard0 players, or journeymen who have just recently found their game.

A team could be built using some star players, and legit vet talent because salaries will fall to fit the cap. The highest paid players might only make 7 mil a year possibly less.

Plus Incoming rookies will see entry level contracts cut in half, with no more joe thornton clause. No more 18 year olds making over a mil thier first 3 years, no more incentive clauses pumping it up even higher.

If a cap is installed, everything changes, it has too or every team would end up looking like that

Never mention Billy Tibbets again. Ever.

The fact of the matter is you might feel that those figures for caps might be outragious but it wasn’t long ago that the highest pay players where making 5 million. The fact is that both fans and owners want a more even playing ground where every team can have a chance to win. It’s only fair. Alot of people are getting outraged that atheletes are making more then other deserving citizens like doctors or police or firefighters. After all sports are for entertainment. Do the best really need more then 4 or 5 million a year.

where is guerin? he should be ont here since he is so very much so underpade. he is the bestest player in the league and worth more money than anyone.

  8. PayUpSucka says:

Do us all a favor will ya? Go drive yourself off a cliff.

  9. dkball7 says:

But he’s just soooo easy to make fun of.

  10. DandoEagle says:

guerin is a top goalscorer, he hit, fight, scores, passes, skates, is a champon. he is the bestest allround player around. at $10 million he is underpade since more worser palyers like jagr nad forsberg make more.

  11. DandoEagle says:

oh yea i furgot to menton that guerin is way way way more better than that minor leaguer mats sundin. how sundin made it to the leage is a disgrace. he is the biggest floter in the league and is the worstest captain.

  12. CechmanekForVezina says:

Forsberg is worse than Guerin? You never cease to amaze me.

  13. Aetherial says:

There would be grandfathering to consider and at the end of the day…

you are making the same point the players are trying to make…

A cap system will take away any free market i.e. players salaries can NOT increase. A cap places a humongous downward pressure on salaries.

I hope the owners break the player’s union thoroughly.

Worser not worse, get your english straigtened out.

  15. leafstopgun says:

Kariya took a pay cut which would allow him to make a huge amount this year so erase him off there

  16. leafstopgun says:

I belive he makes 8 or 9 million and he is probaly the most overrated player in the league

  17. habsoverserver says:

How many of these players can you sign today for these prices?
