Coach of the year is ….
Continuing on with my awards predictions, let’s continue on with the Jack Adams for Coach of the Year. There are many candidates and each deserve strong consideration, but which coach will come out on top? Let’s look at the candidates:Peter Laviolette, New York Islanders- finally is taking this team to the playoffs. Spending spree had a lot to do with it but he has proven to be a good coach. Probably a finalist.
Robbie Ftorek, Boston Bruins- went from ninth last year to first this year. Once again, spending spree had something to do with it but he has a good regular season track record, the playoffs on the other hand…. Probably will be a finalist and one of the favorites to win.
Michel Therrien, Montreal Canadiens- not supposed to be in the playoffs but are there thanks to good coaching, and Jose Theodore of course. Done some good things for the team this year and will get some votes for sure.
Darryl Sutter, San Jose Sharks- already a good team and he has made them a great team. Now one of the powers of the west. Promotes hard work and finishing your checks. Deserves to get some votes.
Brian Sutter, Chicago Blackhawks- like Therrien, made a team destined for a lottery pick a playoff bound. Has taken the Hawks up a few levels and making players play to what they are capable of. Eric Daze, Alexei Zhamnov and Jocelyn Thibault are all having career years and you can thank the coach on that one. Probably a finalist.
Bobby Francis, Phoenix Coyotes- has taken a team that finished ninth last year to a possible playoff spot this year. Has a done an amazing job witht this team considering the losses of Jeremy Roenick and Keith Tkachuk. Should be a finalist.
There are six very deserving candidates for the coach of the year. Anyone of these guys deserves the trophy, but only one will come out on top. Here are my predictions for the finalists:
Brian Sutter, Chicago Blackhawks
Bobby Francis, Phoenix Coyotes
Robbie Ftorek, Boston Bruins
And my winner is………..
That could all change if they don’t make the playoffs, but I think they will and he deserves it the most, considering how much he’s done with so little.
