Coach Therrien is safe for now ?

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette is reporting that Penguins coach Michel Therrien is safe for the time being.

The Penguins have lost 7 of their last 8 games and despite this loosing record and the Penguins present place in the NHL standings Michel Therrien made it clear that he is not worried about being fired. It is also mentioned that the players are not waiting for a move to be made either which is a good sign for Therrien as some teams seem to quit under a lame duck coach.

HTR believes that Pat Quinn would be a great fit for the Penguins if they did decide to change directions in terms of their coaching.

    Something HAS to give.

Either a coaching change or a trade, not sure which, but one of those HAS to happen … assuming this slide continues. If they right the ship and turn it around, then it will be status quo. But if things continue, something will happen. It HAS to.

The coach is not the problem. He may be a small part of it but he is not the total problem.

Where is the work ethic from the players? Where is the goaltending? Where is the defense? Where are the goals? What happened to the power play? Where is the grit? Where is the player standing in front of the opositions net? What happend to the cycling down low? WHERE IS THE CHEMISTRY? This team WILL NOT make the playoffs. There is no urgency. They can not right the ship that is fastly sinking into the depths of the mid atlantic. This team has major problems and a lot of them on top of that.

The part that aggrevates me the most is that Ray Shero has said that he has no plans to do anything either with the coach or by the way of trades.

I believe that this team is now understanding that getting to the cup finals is not a thing to ba taken lightly.

If the players themselves do not believe in each other then there is no way anyone else can believe in them.

I am a huge Penguins fan. Always have been, always will be, but what we see right now is a team that I think their AHL affiliate could beat. The Pens need to wake up and fast. However I do not think they will. They are asked what the problem is and they all say "I don't know".

Well I am not hockey coach nor do I have a degree in rocket science but if something is broke and you do not know what it is then it is my belief that you have no idea how to fix it. Sadly this is where we seem to be at with the Penguins. In order to fix what is broke you have to know what the problem is.

Instead of their slogan this year: "It's a great day for hockey" maybe they should change it to "it's a sad day for Hockey"
