usually when people say "2nd line center" they mean skill wise, not what you are on a specific team at a specific time. Bozak is Toronto's no.1 center, he is not, definitely not, a 1st line center at all. Malkin, Crosby, E.Staal, Getzlaf, are no.1 centers, even though Malkin is behind Crosby (ignoring the injury thing) Malkin is still a no.1 center.

Bergeron, Kesler, Grabovski, Plekanec, etc I would classify as no.2 centers. They could or are no.1 centers on some teams but they do not have the talent level that the no.1 centers have.

No one really considers those guys 2nd line centers, even if they technically are. Bergeron also isn't a 2nd line center as his line has become the number 1 line. He's always been Boston's best center but the Bruins like to use him in the shutdown role.

Obviously Malkin's better because of how ridiculously good he is offensively, but I'd take Bergeron over Kesler. All Kesler has over Bergeron really is goal-scoring ability and speed. I'd take Bergeron over Kesler in everything else.

To be fair, Malkin and Kessler are 2nd line centers. You CANT possible say you'd take Bergeron over Malkin and Kessler?

Thats a good point. If he does end up being that guy who is only 25g/50pts, he will be overpaid at $5mil but not SO ridiculously. Good point man. I like it.

haha. yeah 9 years I would have cried at. Big time I agree with you though. You gotta hedge your bets. Its not a BAD signing at all. Price is pretty good. I mean, how many 35+ goal guys make $5mil? Just the term makes me skittish.

I hear ya.The problem with moving out one of Martin or Michalek is the same problem that the Leafs had with Komisarek last season. Who REALLY wants to trade for an underperforming, overpaid player? I mean … unless you are Bob Gainey and you want Scott Gomez But OUTSIDE of that .. hehheh.I think Martin is untradable right now. 10000%. Michalek still has some value as he is a shot blocking machine but $4 mil for that seems steep. He hasnt been "bad" … just .. "meh, whatever." I dont WANT to trade him but to fit Neal in, I think he has to go.

I'd take Kesler over bergeron. Zetterberg too (although he may not be 2nd line C, not realy sure how they roll with him and datsyuk)… I'd personally take Stastny too. But yea, bergeron is up there. I don't think many on here would argue that grabo is better. Just because people don't share your opinions to an extreme, doesn't mean they aren't logical. Bergeron consistently has a chance for the selke and outscores grabo. Not gonna find many arguments in grabos favour.

Everyone would take Bergeron over Grabovski. But Bergeron isn't underrated at all. Everyone knows he's a solid 2-way centre, capable of putting up around 60 points or so. Good solid player, no question.

And to the dude who didn't understand the Staal comment. I don't like Jordan Staal, I think he's overrated.

true, if Connolly was signed for 4-5 years we would be freaking out, but by getting him for only 2 years we can swallow that shit-hole of a contract and not have to stress about it.

I would prefer Grabovski to sign a 5-6 year deal at 4M a season but a 2-3 year deal at 5M a season isn't that terrible either.
