how can the oiler’s performance be defined as a choke? they never had the lead in the series and in game 7. We lost our star goalie in game 1 and went through some flu thingy. If anything can be called is the flames last season and this season. They had two 3-2 leads and blew them both. Oilers choked? hahahahahaha

  2. oiler1fan says:

award ceremony is on thursday nit and the draft on saturday

  3. oiler1fan says:

maybe with all that extra money, the leafs are paying people to act like their fans?

  4. skidragoon says:

the leafs dont benefit from the extra money, and its unfair to compare a team who was built on spending to a team built on drafting in this new nhl as your team was well more prepared then mine

  5. Marky2Fresh says:

Nice way to cir*****vent your banning

  6. Scruffy05 says:

Who here thinks Cam Ward is going to pull a Jim Carey next season? (Not the comedien, the Washington goalie from years back)

  7. tancred says:

Ah, thanks for the information. Much appreciated. I’m guessing both teams came in on team plane/charter jets, so I suppose the baggage handlers could have made an excuse that they were out to lunch or something. But if it were regular commercial airlines, then it would be firstcome, first serve kind of thing.

We get team planes come in all the time here. I’ve seen the Dallas Stars and Detroit Redwings planes here. But in both cases, it was their MLB counterparts that were here, and not the hockey teams.

  8. my_sphincter says:

I hate the Leafs, but I won’t disrespect their history or their cup wins. (I’m a Habs fan BTW)

  9. buds8 says:

WOW! What a debate I ignited here….I think you both make good points…..the only thing I was trying to say was that the Leafs have more significance because they not only have more fans than any othe teams, they have more haters than other teams have fans!

Also, on your claim that the Leafs have been the worst Canadian franchise in the last 30 years……that kills me…..Calgary has been the worst by far….1 Cup and 1 Finals appearance……10+ years of missing the playoffs.

And that’s just on the ice…..Ottawa went BANKRUPT! and Edmonton almost did too!

The Toronto Maple Leafs and the word Bankrupt will never be stated in relation to one another!

Take care and keep on hating!

p.s. Gotta love those Edmonton riotters….Classssy!

  10. toronto77 says:

the leafs were only out by 2 points, and they have done way more in the playoffs than your oils, i’m not gonna say cuz i’m sick of repeating myself…….5,13……do the riddle.

  11. kicksave856 says:

Lets average it out. How many years have the leafs been in the league to win their 16 (?) cups? And how many years have the oil been in the league to win their 5 (?). Then we can see who is the most successful team.

  12. kicksave856 says:

    lol. isn’t EVERYONE jealous?

  13. kicksave856 says:

    Well, lets do some math.

And someone correct me if I am wrong, because I don’t follow the teams enough to know if these numbers are correct.

The way I think I see it, the Leafs have been competing for the cup for 89 years and won it 13 times. The Oilers have been competing for the cup for 27 years and have won it 5 times.

That means that the Leafs win the cup once every 6.85 years that they compete for it and the Oilers win it once every 5.4 years they compete for it. That would actually make the Oilers the more successful team as far as winning cups goes (and let’s face it, that’s all that matters and what you guys have been arguing about).

But like I said, someone correct me if my numbers are wrong. What do I know? I mean, I know how to divide…

  14. kicksave856 says:

Wait … how many finals appearances did you say the Flames have?

  15. paul_dc10 says:

    whats it like jannety????

  16. paul_dc10 says:

ive never heard of stall either

  17. 24_cups_and_counting says:

Enough bashing Janetty. Atleast he showed up and faced the music, unlike that other p***y Gretzkin.

The Bigger question here is “Where’s Gretzkin?”

  18. LeafsJaysRapsBillsManU says:

You can average it out all you want, but the fact of the matter is that the Leafs have won 13 Cups to Edmontons 5. Their average in terms of years per Cup is better than Toronto’s, yet they have won 9 fewer. I don’t really even what the debate is here. 13 is more than 5 and that’s pretty much the end of discussion.

  19. LeafsJaysRapsBillsManU says:

    To correct my grammatical errors:

*I don’t really even KNOW what the debate is here.

  20. toronto77 says:

don’t worry he’ll get his share too. even if he doesn’t show up till october when this whole thing blows over, we’ll still rub it in his face.

  21. 92-93 says:

i’m not sure why in the world you picked the Flames as the worst Cdn. franchise in the last 30 years (1976-2006).

since their expansion in 1970, the Canucks have made it to the finals once, the semi-finals once, and have missed the playoffs 15 times! the few times they have made the playoffs they often lost in the first round – sometimes in the 2nd round. a big reason for that was having the powerhouse Oilers and Flames – who were a DOMINANT team during much of the 1980s – in the same division.

i think that by far the leafs and Canucks are two of the worst Canadian teams (not including the Nords before they became the Avs or the Jets before they became the Coyotes).

but your point about the intangibles with the leafs as being more loved and hated is well put.

  22. 92-93 says:

why would we rub anything in his face???

i mean, come on people. i had this conversation with muckies not to long ago and he couldnt believe me when i said i took no pleasure in kicking people while they were down – i.e. making fun of their allegieances after their team was knocked out or missed the playoffs.

neither did Jannetty when he made fun of some Calgary fans after they were eliminated.

i’ll except one thing – that not all fans react the same way and some take pleasure in such things and treat it as fun – fine. i can accept that. but its just not my thing i guess. i feel bad for people when they can’t cheer for their team anymore.

the one thing i can understand about making fun of gretzkin is that he is the predominant douche bag on this site – no question about it. but why sink to his level and rub it in his face.

moreover, how can anyone rub anything in the faces of oiler fans when their team made it to the 7th game of the finals and the leafs DIDNT EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS???!!!

in fact, the closest the leafs have gotten is the 7th game of the campbell conference finals in 1993!!!

i dunno. it just reeks of low class right now. its like the lowest kind of fan to do that.

let guys like gretzkin and muckies wallow for a bit and let them know that we know all about karma and that when they shoot their mouths off all the time, somehow, someway, it will always work out so that their team in the end doesn’t win the cup.

  23. 92-93 says:

    everyone has their own style.

my point has been and will always be – if that is your style, be ready for the attacks to come.

i’ve learned to take the ribbing from people when they choose to take offense of the way i speak. its not a big deal anymore. i just respond with the usual remarks and move on.

the thing is – when you do what you do – it looks like fun and it probably is as you say. when i do what i do – everyone thinks that its not fun at all, which is the furthest thing from the truth. i take a lot of pleasure from the care i put behind what i say and how i say it. i like STATS! i know they dont explain everything but i like them. i like using quotes and other people’s words and blending them into my point. i like dropping in the big words, not because they make me look smart but because i know they explain EVERYTHING and PRECISELY what i want to say – and i know that people can just type them in on a search engine and figure out what they mean and not necessarily have to go to university for it LOL.

you know, i prefer that you and gretzkin and muckies dont change your ways, its good practice for me and it is FUN.

  24. toronto77 says:

i hate jannetty(oilers2006champs) because after edmonton lost, out of nowhere he starts shooting at toronto.

  25. kicksave856 says:

    ooook then.

  26. Gretzkin says:

Just to let everybody know, I didn’t bury my head in the sand after my Mighty Oilers lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

I went Camping, watched the game at a tavern and all is well.

That was an amazing game, and Edmonton never recovered from the start that the Hurricanes put forth. Once they regained their form, it was one of the best games I’ve ever seen.

For a team that many thought wouldn’t make the playoffs to take it all the way to Game 7, against 1 of the 3 teams expected to win, there is nothing to be dissapointed with.

Sure, I wish they won, but they passed so many tests along the way.

3rd thing. TO ALL FINGER POINTERS.

There is no way to rub this defeat in my face. My team gave me one of the most enjoyable Playoff runs in my life. They won the adoration of the nation, and put the Oilers back on the map.

Keep in my that the OILERS did much better than everybody else, save Carolina.

You can’t rub that in my face.

They’ve earned all the Golf that they want, unlike the other 28 teams that didn’t have the gusto to take it to the finals.

Cam Ward got the MVP??? What’s up with that?

He took over the helm, I get that, but he was chased, and not super human, I still believe that.

Should’ve been Brind’amour or even Pronger. It should have only between those 2, and with the Canes winning, it should be Brind’amour, unless you total leadership, points (considering Pronger is D), and icetime… should’ve been Pronger.

Anyways, I look forward to next season, and once again, CONRGATS HURRICANES!!! You deserve it.

The MIGHTY OILERS OF EDMONTON will live to fight another day, and with Kevin Lowe at the helm, I am more than confident that they can bring themselves right back to the Finals.

  27. 92-93 says:

well, they are preoccupied with toronto – just like some of the ottawa sen fans and media … obsessed with a team that didnt even make the playoffs.

i can take pleasure from that and laugh about it. how many times have toronto fans spoken about vancouver??? – none. well, except to inquire about getting Anson Carter LOL.

  28. my_sphincter says:

Ward is the only reason that Montreal didn’t take the Canes out in the first round. He was phenomenal. Even in the high scoring games, the team was letting him down. He gave up few weak goals.

Now that the Oilers have lost, perhaps it is time to lose the GO OILERS GO!!! as it no longer makes sense.

Also, I don’t think that people want to rub anything in the face of most Oiler fans. Your problem, like Jannetty, is that you got overconfident and mouthy during the playoff run. This tends to rub fans of other teams the wrong way. Now when people are saying negative things about the Oilers, they are really directed at you (this is why the Leafs get criticized so much. It is the fans, not the team.). I seem to remember warning you about celebrating the cup win before the series was over…

And now, although it doesn’t bother you that the Oilers lost, fans like you and Jannetty have alienated other potential Oiler fans. Now Oiler fans are finding out what it is like to be a Leaf fan. A few overconfident, delusional fans ruin it for fans that love their team, but are more realistic (like 92-93 SOMETIMES tends to be).

    Just one person’s observation…

  29. Gretzkin says:

Whatever, one or two people hyped up because of success of their team isn’t something that could turn people against all fans of that specific team.

Comparing Jannetty and myself to Leaf fans doesn’t really hit the mark. There’s a HUGE difference. The Oilers made it to the Playoffs, Game 7 of the Finals, and woke up the Nation.

The Leafs and their fans all act on fiction and 39 year hope.

I can understand the jealousy quotient. People wishing their team was still worth cheering for and feeling the heightened hope of an amazing cup run. Sure, that would piss some off, but everybody needs to put it into perspective.

Imagine how you would have felt had the Leafs made it?

Anyways, that was my intended final Go Oilers Go for the season, it was a thank you.

Now, I’m going to go back to my normal self of trade talks, glorious articles, and insightful discussion.

I still believe Brind’Amour, then Pronger for the Con Smythe, but that’s just me. Though, Ward played well.

  30. my_sphincter says:

I would have felt like crap if the Leafs made it! I just thought the cheerleading squad was a little overdone (and it wasn’t just the two of you).

The comparison to Leaf fans does fit if you really think about it. Look at Jannetty with the OILERS2006CHAMPS moniker. They didn’t win, but the delusion is still there.

As for the “jealous…People wishing their team was still worth cheering for ” comment, this is exactly what I am talking about. I hear that from Leaf fans all the time that people are jealous that their team is soooo popular. I am not jealous of Carolina or Edmonton fans. Do I wish my team won? Hell yes! But I am not jealous. In the end, my team was beaten by the same team that beat yours.

I would have felt great if my team won the cup (or even made a good run), but I wouldn’t have posted GO HABS GO!!! everywhere; or made posts like …

    GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!

But the Habs ARE the BEST!!!

    GO HABS GO!!!!!

You keep saying that people have to put things into perspective. From my perspective, the Oilers are a team that hasn’t won a cup in 16 years, barely made the playoffs and had a good run. By all means, get excited, but all of that assinine cheerleading only serves to hurt the Oilers in the end (much like the ranting of certain Leaf fans).

  31. Gretzkin says:

    I don’t disagree with you.

    It’s annoying, I know.

Fans from other teams would do the same, and it wouldn’t bother me one bit. Cheering is what fans do.

You may not be jealous, but many others were, and I would have been as well. You want your team to go, and if they don’t and as a fan, you have to sit on the sidelines and watch other fans of other teams get all amped up, of course it would be annoying.

But, whatever, that’s all water under the bridge now.

The Oilers didn’t win, had a hell of a run, and made me enourmously happy for what they accomplished, even if they did fall short of the Cup.

I still don’t think 2 jackasses can bring down the views of a team. The comparison isn’t there. Leaf fans have been arrogant over nothing for decades. 2 Oilers fans were annoying over a huge possibilty of winning out of nowhere and writing one of the storied successes in NHL history.

That’s the perspective I’m talking about.

And Jannetty changing his moniker was for another reason other than claiming cup victory, albeit, a little premature, in hindsight.

As for Habs fans, I don’t find them annoying at anytime. They know what their team can accomplish, don’t get in over their heads, have a wackload of Championships to be proud of, and are the last Canadian team to win the Cup.

I don’t think I was in over my head, as the Oil took it to Game 7.

Anyways, it’s trade talk time. Seasons done. Lets move on.

  32. Gretzkin says:

You’re the prodominant douche bag if anyone.

The fun police at it’s worst. Officer 92-93. Fun sponge.

My Oiler drive has been snubbed and I’m coming back down to earth, but you my friend, will always be the douche.

  33. Gretzkin says:

I think he’ll pull something close to it.

Gerber’s better and Carolina will suffer when they lose him.

Ward got lucky, he’s 22, unproven, and will be human next season.

  34. wingerxxx says:

Brind’Amour cost himself the Conn Smythe when he didn’t show up for the press thing. Plus, he had a pretty bad couple of games in there. Although he had a pretty good run overall. Ward was the more deserving winner in my opinion. He had a great game 7, that’s was sealed it.

I like Pronger over Pisani because Pronger was making it happen at both ends of the ice for every single game. Pisani was getting the glamour goals, but without Pronger’s play, the Oilers would have been sunk early in these playoffs.

  35. 92-93 says:

well, welcome to earth … i’ve been down here all along.

i actually defended guys like you in terms of not rubbing it in your face. hey, at least i am consistent, unlike you.

  36. 92-93 says:

that’s the thing – fans of other teams on this site have never annoyed others the way Jannetty and you have … i never see all-caps-locked-cheer-leading crap anywhere else.

cheering is one thing, but have a little class, act like you’ve been there before.

funny, i wasnt annoyed at the few Sabre fans or montreal fans or Flames fans on this site while there were in the playoffs. i wasn’t annoyed at the Devils fans … i wasnt jealous or anything.

unlike you i won’t reduce you and Jannetty as representing all oiler fans the way you reduce the minority of dumb leaf fans to represent ‘all leaf fans’ —- another area you’ve got to evolve on, which you never will obviously.

i was quite entertained by the oilers run this year. i was hoping they’d make it and be that cinderella team … it didnt happen and it sucks. i totally understand the kind of hysteria surrounding the team … um, i do cheer for the leafs after all, isnt the big thing about leaf fans is that they plan a stanley cup parade route after a win in the first round?

the key word about Jannetty is ‘premature’ LOL.

again, watching you talk about ‘habs fans’ and ‘leaf fans’ as if they were singular entities is laughable.

but yes, in the end you are right,

its trade talk time and its time to move on.
