With his contract expiring, Michael Ryder is ‘a candidate to move’

Stars beat writer Mike Heika answered questions in a chat on Thursday. Here are some highlights.

Do you think Ryder’s days are numbered in a Stars uniform? what do you think we can get in a trade for him Mike?

I just think that with his contract up, with Whitney having another year, with the kids pushing, and with the specter of Jagr still there, Ryder is a candidate to move. Not sure on what he can bring, but he would be a good piece for an NHL team that needs scorers.

Pending UFA on a team that may or may not make the playoffs…can’t see how he’d be a potential trade candidate.lol

Sheesh, do you need me to explain this to you? lol

Ok, well you see sometimes in the NHL,(which stands for National Hockey League), GM’s (which is short for General managers), trade palyers they feel may no longer want to be with their team or that they may not want back. They trade these players, commonly referred to as assets, for other assets. Now sometimes these players get great returns if they are good players and sometimes they are just happy tro not lose them for nothing. These players are generally traded to playoff teams looking to aquire guys who they feel might help them win the Stanley Cup, which is what all NHL teams play for, in this thing called the playoffs. Unless you are a Nucks fan, then you play for the Presidents Trophy as best regular season team…..lol.

I’d take a run at Ryder. He’s a big guy with a heavy shot, and a really streaky scorer.

Ryder and Morrow for Liles, MacArthur, and McKegg/Ashton. I don’t know, might not be enough, I wonder what the value of Morrow would be?

I don’t think the deal would work for only one reason, if they move Ryder AND Morrow they are outside of the playoff picture and looking to reshape the look of their team hoping to squeak into the playoffs or trade 2 assets they may lose for nothing.

As a Leafs fan, I love it though, upgrade the top 9 and get tougher while trading a D-man that doesn’t make us worse in any way. Huge win for us.

I had read that Morrow wasn’t having a great year. Anybody know if this is true & if he has slowed a step?

I don’t think Dallas makes that deal. They have Robidas, Goligoski and Daley so I doubt Liles interests them. I am also not sure if the Leafs are interested in two(probably one they would) 30+ pending UFA’s. I would like the look of us better with those two guys, but I don’t see it happening. I like the idea though.
