By the end of the season they could be 1st in the East. They're really a good team, and they sorta snuck up on everyone. They have scoring, their defence is improved, picking up Sydor was a nice move about a month back, and their goaltending has been solid. They could deffinately win the East, I don't think its such a long shot. If they keep playing this well, they have as good as shot as anyone.

Of course the only weakness I see is that they're not from Toronto, so they should just step aside now, because god knows no one can beat the all mightly Maple Leafs....

how can anyone call the lightning the ducks of last year…sorry folks but the lightning are for real. Christ I am not even a lightning fan…but if you know hockey you know they are for real!!

Tampa Bay in my eyes is the Vancouver of the East. They’re close, but just seem to be missing a piece. Only in Tampa’s case, I think the only thing they’re missing is expeirence.

I'm not sold on Tampa Bay being a contender. I could as always be wrong but I just don't see them having what it takes to make it through this year. In the future perhaps, but not this year.

They have seen little or no adversity this year. I don't count a slump earlier in the year and Lecavalier pouting as adversity. No injuries, period, and playing in a weak division makes life a bit easier. When a tough time hits in the playoffs (and it always does), I don't know if they can respond and rise above it quick enough. And we all know it only takes one or two slip-ups in the playoffs to spell doom.

Again I could be underestimating the players and coaches, my feelings could be unfounded. But I've watched them quite a bit this year, I just get the sense that when the heat is on, they won't be able to withstand it.

“Could this be the makings of a Cinderella team for the playoffs?” You say that, and you say how they have a good chance to be first overall in the same article. Cinderella usually rests in 6th, 7th, or 8th, not 1st!
