I agree with you on Lidström. He is not a bad player, he's got skills. I think there are players on teams that aren't as good that would be doing exactly as well as he is if they were on the Red Wings.

I am not saying he is a bad player but somehow it feels strange to see him on the list of Norris Winners. He is not nearly as good as Ray Bourque and yet they won the same Trophy.

If Leetch is really as bad as you say he would be about a -20 on that defensively challenged group they call a team in the NYR.

Being a -9 on that team with that record is definitely showing that he (not the team) is doing something right, and it shows he has no help from his team. He goes against the top lines every night and it shows.

Don't blame one player it is a team game that requires at least some kind of defense or everyone will suffer. Such is the case with the NYR.

If you really wanted to get the cat by it's tongue with Manta, you could have mentioned that Stevens has never played with a defensive partner who has been horrible defensively in his career, and used that as well as Borque as an example.

-9 isn't a great stat, but just remember one thing, +/- is flawed. Jaromir Jagr on your line isn't going to help your +/- by not backchecking, and neither is Tom Poti joining the rush and getting caught every time. Did I mention making up for Lawrence Nycholat's rookie jitters? It's not like Brian Leetch has ever had a great defenseman as a partner. Stevens... hmmm... Kevin Hatcher, Scott Niedermayer... hell, even Rod Langway. I'd love to see this arguement for Stevens if it was the other way around.

The point of that is... it won't change his view until you put him in those shoes with his guy. Then you'll get the cat by the tongue.

As for Dawes, I agree. I think he’s a Steve Sullivan/Martin St. Louis in the making. Same exact body frame, same exact type of play. Great skater, nuclear thighs, great hands, a knack for great goals, and plays a gritty game. He’s a champ alright, what the Rangers need.
