Could This Happen?

In todays Newsday, Alahn Hahn reports that the St. Louis BLues are dangling All-Star Pavol Demitra and seem very interested in defenceman Roman Hamrlik. Could Demitra be heading to the island. Let me hear your thoughts.,0,7165346.story?coll=ny-hockey-headlines

You know that Milbury can’t let a draft day go by without making a move (for better or worse).

Demitra would be a great addition, Niinimaa makes Hammer expendable. It would be a great pick-up, but I wonder about the Isles payroll after that.

  2. Donovan says:

I was thinking the same thing. Diemitra would be a great addition on the Island but can they afford it?

Hamerlik would be a good fit in St. Louis too I think.

  3. DaMick says:

    Jonnson’s contract situation.

seems like Kenny threatened Milbury to play in Europe unless he gets a longterm deal.

what Mad mike does in regards will influence his trading.

So Hamrlik might be a tough sell at this point.

and yes i agree with Manta…The Isles Payroll situation would increase if Demitra is acquired.

Which…i dunno if the owners will allow to happen.

Tommorow will be a interesting day…im glad im off tommorow.

The St. Louis Blues would have to be smoking crack to trade Demitra. He’s one of the top 15 forwards in the NHL, and he’s not that expensive. No way that deal is going through.

  5. Kashin says:

Done deal. Hamrlik can now be traded with Niinimma and knowing Mad Mike, he will probably bring in some other offensive defensmen. Demritra is exactly what the isles need.

  6. JohnFlan22 says:

Demitra is a group 2 and will probably get a contract around 5.5 to 6 million awarded to him. While that would eclipse Hamrlik’s salary it isn’t that much more. plus consider the isles no longer have to eat Kevin Haller’s salary. The isles could do this move and trade guys like Timander and maybe even Parrish for draft picks as well to make room. On the St. Louis side they have doug weight who they won’t move and Keith Tkachuck won’t be moved due to his salry being simply TOO high. Demitra isn’t exactley expendable but they have more dire needs to rebuild the defense since al mac will soon be retired and Demitra’s salary is moveable. Hamrlik fits the bill. You’ll probably see alot more lopsided and seemingly dumbass moves happen besides this one going down on draft day so i wouldn’t be surprised to see this one happen at all. League execs are saying you can have just about any player right now for little in return if you are willing to pick up the salary. This deal is actually ain’t too bad.

  7. jsFALLEN says:

Mike may have a couple other deals to “trim the fat” Like moving Parrish, Webb, Kvasha, Bates, Timander and making room for several Bridgeport players. that should offset the difference in payroll.

  8. jsFALLEN says:

I can’t see the Isles making a deal for big number 7. At 8 million a year he would kill their payroll. If this goes down tomorrow it will be with Demitra.

  9. jsFALLEN says:

    Those are my thoughts exactly.

  10. DaMick says:

But Weimer & Jonsson’s restricted free agent status might put a crimp in them getting a high end product like Demitra.

  11. Tradedude says:

    ARE THE BLUES INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????

(leafs get him now lol ;))

  12. jsFALLEN says:

I had forgotten about Weimer’s status. thanks for the post.

First off, Islander fan, you guys are all of a sudden telling everyone that “Hammer is expendable, we got Niinimaa.” WHAT??? How is that possible when 4 months ago your d was SO thin, and you needed one more. Now, if you say that Hammer is expendable because Martinek or Tarnstrom is ready to step up, that I can swing with. Second, Pleau isn’t THAT stupid, he’s going to get a pick or two out of this as well. But, considering the Isles are looking to dump salary, a more likely trade would be Yashin and your first rounder for Demtira. I don’t know if you want to do that, but one thing for sure, Demitra is a better guy to have around the locker room. Demitra for Hamrlik wouldn’t add much salary to the team.

  14. aaron says:

What possible reason would the Blues have for trading for Yashin’s 10 year, 90 million dollar salary a year before the CBA runs out? Pleau REALLY isn’t that stupid.

  15. aaron says:

Why would Milbury want to trade all those players? Seems like he’d be destroying the entire team to add one high priced player (as good as Demitra is, one player isn’t worth losing that many roster players).

  16. Bodster says:

    Tarnstrom is a penguin dumbass

  17. Flyers_01 says:

I like this deal for both teams if it goes down. Both teams get something they need.

  18. jsFALLEN says:

I don’t think he will move all of them, just a handful of them. The players I listed are the one I think he will want to move.

  19. jsFALLEN says:

A team looking to move salary can only move players other teams covet. In moving Hamerlik or even Jonnson the isles will shed some salary even at the expense of there defense. This team needs a top winger real bad and the blues could use some defense. Besides with mike at the helm we could end up with Suter in the draft who is a great d-pick(if he can swing a deal). and for the short term get some d help throug some trades.

  20. nskerr says:

I would lose Hamrlik for Demitra in a heartbeat. I don’t know why there is so much love for Hamrlik. Demitra would desperately help the team while the Isles defense is tilii pretty good. That same article mentions Peca as someone St. Louis is interested in as well. I would be more hesitant in trading Peca than I would Hamrlik.

  21. Dallas_Stars_Rule says:

Pavol Demitra is so underrated for a guy who gets 95 points a season and is only rated 49th. It would be the worst move of the year to get rid of Demitra. Personally I would like him going to Dallas

  22. OilersSuk says:

Unless the Blues are totally clearing the roster I think Demitra will still be a Blue next year, considering they have already dealt Stillman and Nash.
