Coyote Firesale? Canadiens to make a bid for Havlat?

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun is reporting that the Penguins now want Sykora to stay in Pittsburgh because of his play with Malkin, that the Canadiens will make a pitch for Havlat should he become available and that the Flyers are interested in the Senators Anton Volchenkov.

It is also noted that the Phoenix Coyotes may be looking to move the trio of Ed Jovanovski, Olli Jokinen and Derek Morris. While there is speculation that the Coyotes will move these players due to finical reason HTR believes that these players will be moved near the deadline if the Coyotes look like they will miss the playoffs once again. Each of these players should be able to get the Coyotes a good return of prospects and picks.

Just what the habs need, another china doll in Havlat. Make a run at Jokinen instead Gainey.

  2. hockey_lover says:

Pitts should definitely hang on to Sykora. At $2.5mil a year, he is worth the investment.

Havlat is not the answer to any team's problems .. unless the problem is "hey we need an injury to make some cap room." If thats the case, Havlat is your guy. Shame … the guy has buttloads of talent.

I'm not so sure the Sens should get rid of Anton. He is one of their most reliable players.

Im surprised about Jokinen. I thought he was going to have a great year with the 'Yotes.

  3. Rodolphe says:

Agreed, the sens most valuable d-man is clearly volchenkov.

About Tangay ,Kovalev, McDonagh, 1st in 2010 and O'Byrne for Jokinen and Jovo?

  5. careyprice31 says:

Has Gainey Lost His Mind or what?  What the ***** is Havlat gonna do for the montreal canadiens. Jesus christ

  6. careyprice31 says:

I like the sounds of this move but honestly will this move really turn around the canadiens?

  7. RossCreek says:

Not sure why Phoenix would want a couple of UFA'a for guys under contract. Morris will likely be dealt as he's an impending UFA. I doubt Jokinen gets moved unless they're getting a great return. A couple of home playoff dates would be HUGE for the 'yotes, so I doubt there'll be a "firesale" Mr. Garrioch. And Jovanovski has a no-trade clause and makes 6.5. I doubt a lot of teams would like to pick up that contract, and I doubt even more that Eddie Jo would waive his no-trade with the possible exception of maybe a few destinations (probably based more on location than anything else).

  8. RossCreek says:

The Habs should be calling David Poile in Nashville every other minute. Big centers – Jason Arnott & David Legwand. Big FRENCH winger – JP Dumont. Good, young, inexpensive d-man – Dan Hamhuis. Veteran back-up goalie – Dan Ellis. Thoughts?

  9. muckies says:

The Yotes and Ottawa have a history of dealing I'll calll Jovo to Ottawa for a nice package.

Phoenix: Ottawa's 1st round from SJ, Schubert, Picard
    Ott: Jovo

  10. RossCreek says:

I highly doubt Jovo's going anywhere. How are the Sen's gonna fit him into their cap? And not dissing, but refresh my memory – what history do the 'yotes and sens have in regards to trading with each other?

  11. RossCreek says:

Correct about Volchenkov. I can't see them moving him. That type of d-man @ 2.5 with another year left is pretty valuable. I'd take him on my team any day.

  12. muckies says:

saprykin for a 2nd, comrie for a 2nd, and this year they dealt a russian prospect (Nikulin) for Drew Fata and another russian prosect  (Kaigarodov) for signed Gretzky jersey and 20 free golf passes.
I say it's a long shot because Ottawa would rather get Kaberle or J-bo, but it would be a nice move and Jovo is exactly what they need, a confident, veteran D-man who can rush the puck from behind his net to the Ofensive zone
Phonix gets younger and cheaper, and gets some really decent players and a #1, more then fair, you ncould actually probably take Picard right out of the deal and the Yotes would still do it

  13. RossCreek says:

"…for signed Gretzky jersey and 20 free golf passes"

    Touche. Still, I doubt it.

  14. RossCreek says:

    As per TSN.CA

"The Atlanta Thrashers have traded defenceman Mathieu Schneider to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for second and third round picks.

Schneider previously played for the Canadiens from the 1989-90 season to the 1994-95 campaign.

This season, the New York native has 4 goals and 11 assists in 44 games."

  15. pezzz123 says:

Tanguay will not waive his no-trade to go to Phoenix, and it will take a LOT more than this to land BOTH Jokinen and Jovanovski.

  16. habs79 says:

He just gave up a 2nd and 3rd for a 40 year old, he is clearly deperate.

  17. habs79 says:

Arnott I can see Legwand does not play a physical game, nor does Dumont. A young stud d-man like Hamhuis won't come cheap.

  18. intelligentscorpio says:

Ray Shero can use all those you mentioned above, given the state of the Penguins.

  19. ZeroX93 says:

    I say!

    FLA: Jovo & Jokenin

PHO: JayBo with some sort of signing insurance

I know JayBo wouldn't want to sign there long term anyways…
