Coyotes announcement due this week, Jamison says

Prospective Phoenix Coyotes owner Greg Jamison told The Arizona Republic on Monday that he expects to complete his purchase of the team on Wednesday or Thursday this week, just ahead of a crucial deadline associated with Jobing.com Arena in Glendale.

(Special note to Seattle and Canadian hockey fans who were hoping to snare a vagabond Coyotes franchise: Insert your curses in either English or French here.)

Jamison needs to buy the team from the NHL by Thursday to secure a 20-year deal with the city to use and manage the 17,250-seat arena. The deal will pay him about $15 million a year to book concerts and non-hockey events into the facility. If he blows the deadline, the agreement will vanish.

Jamison vowed that he’ll meet the deadline. “There’s a lot happening. We’re moving forward. There will be an announcement before the end of the week,” Jamison said Monday morning.

Really? An announcement this week?

“Yes, there will. There certainly will,” he said.

Hockey Trade Rumors thinks that this is garbage. He has had plently of time to buy this team. If it were in Quebec or Hamilton this would have been over long ago.
