Coyotes not looking to sell

The NHL roster freeze is in effect until Feb. 23 and the League’s trade deadline is March 5.

There will likely be lots of moves around the League as teams cement rosters for the playoffs.

“We’re not looking to ‘sell,’” Maloney said when asked if the Coyotes would be ‘buyers’ or ‘sellers’ at the trade deadline. “We’d like to add. But right now there are 25 other teams in the League in the exact same situation and there are only five teams that look to be prepared to move some players out for younger assets.”

Is it wrong to be happy Kessel had an awesome game today? LOL. I think a big Olympics for him means a strong finish for the Leafs. However he probably still won’t get deserved respect!!

I’m rooting for Phil and JVR as long as it’s not against Canada. I think people are finally realizing how elite Kessel really is. The dude just dominates.

      • leafmeister says:

I’m probably gonna root for them even against Canada. We won last time. I don’t care about another gold.

        • doorman says:

I care about another gold but want them to play well. Yes Kessel is a force, if he could just shore up the defensive side a bit more he would be amazing.

          Leafmeister – I can’t believe what I just read.

So you’re a Leaf fan first and a Canadian second?

Sometimes as sports fans, we get carried away thinking “inside a box”, but we need to remember that sports is only a fantasy world. Your COUNTRY comes first!!

          • leafmeister says:

I am a proud Canadian, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I have to cheer for them at hockey. If I had to choose between my Canadian citizenship and my affinity to the Leafs I’d obviously choose the former. However this is just hockey. The same fantasy world you talk about.

When it comes to hockey, I am Leafs fan. They are the team that is inexplicably attached to my mood, and their top players are usually my favourite players. Why the hell should I care what Crosby and co. add to their trophy case just because they were born in the same country as me?

            • leafy says:

Okay I see what you’re saying.

I do a lot of traveling in my work and I’ve seen for myself that it’s a rough world out there. Many people don’t realize how fortunate they are to live in Canada, so I’m sensitive about this topic.

I get what you’re trying to say Leafmeister, but to your own point…Kessel and JVR are not playing for the Leafs in this tourney, they are playing for team USA. They are not Leafs right now, they are American hockey players trying to defeat our countries hockey players. That’s fact. GO CANADA!!

All this puck cycling against Norway, zzzzzz….. I miss the rush.

Should be interesting, Canada is the internet darling Advanced Dungeons & Dragons stat savvy lock for a championship, elite centers, centers put on the wing (cause naturally wingers aren’t real players), PRD, RHD/LHD balance, faceoff specialist… Surely Parker Lewis can’t lose.

The Yankees though, looked pretty good for a team whose best talent is on the wing and in net. The US ‘this built to win’.

Wow CBC hard to argue continuing your publically funded existence when I look for highlights as have to settle for that pathetic montage and cock blocking anyone else from posting decent highlights.

  4. LN91 says:

The USA are always underestimated in the Olympics.

This team is better then 4 years ago, they do not have the most skill as a Russia, Canada, or Sweden…But the Americans have the types of players (D Brown, Parise, Kesler, Backes, Oshie, etc.) that can throw any player in the world off their game.

  5. leafmeister says:

GO PHIL GO! Early favourite for tournament MVP. I really hope the US takes this.

    • Gambo says:

No one should ever spell it as “favourite” and also cheer for USA over Canada, especially when it comes to hockey.

      • leafy says:

Totally agreed Gambo. Do you honestly think Phil Kessel truly gives a fuck about the Leafs? He gets paid good $$$ to play for this particularly NHL team at this point in his career. But his loyalty is to his family and his country, as it should be.

We are mostly Leafs fans here. But during the Olympics, for a 2 week period, all that is put aside. You root for your country first and foremost.

        • leafmeister says:

I try, somewhat. I just can’t get into it. I watch it cause its good hockey, but I was screaming at my TV at 9 am for the US, and fell asleep during OT during the CAN-FIN game. I can’t just flip a switch and like a team.

I don’t care why Kessel does the things he does, I care that he does the things he does. So long as he keeps doing them, I will continue liking him.

      • leafmeister says:

That was deliberate. I am a Canadian in every other regard, I just don’t really give a shit how we do in the Olympics. These are all clearly individual achievements that are paraded around as national achievements. Its stupid.

I do really like Kessel and JVR though.

        • leafs_wallace93 says:

As a supporter of Kessel from day one, loving his progression a big FU to all the Seguin nut riders and ‘experts’ that said Kessel didn’t possess franchise talent.

    • leafs_wallace93 says:

I was in a packed Saturday Tim Hortons line while Russia and the US were just about to go to the shootout and the entire place was glued to it. Old women watching while serving, heck were parameatics on duty in uniform watching, sitting with a fast food joint full of strangers all enjoying hockey together was pretty cool. I’m just enjoying this Olympics, I’ve seen my country win gold enough, I could careless if Canada wins or not.

The US has been a lot more fun to watch than Canada. To be honest I’m rooting for them too. Canada is playing boring up tight hockey.

      • Gambo says:

If I was to choose between the Leafs winning the cup and Canada winning the gold medal I’d easily choose the Leafs winning the cup. But like Leafy said, no one, not even the NHL players themselves are even thinking about the NHL. It’s all about winning gold for your country.

Hockey is Canada’s game and one of the few things we take pride in saying we’re the best at. It’s important as fans and as Canadians to want to win. Shit, even random Canadian broads I know that can’t explain a single rule about hockey go fucking crazy about Canada winning gold.

I’ve only seen Canada win gold at the Olympics in men’s hockey twice. Definitely haven’t seen enough of that. Honestly, I’m cheering for Sweden before USA, you know why? Swedish girls>Phil Kessel.

  6. leafy says:

If Drew Doughty is not the best defenceman in the world today, I want to know who is.

    • kessel_leafs81 says:

i still like weber, hes been outstanding and that shot is rediculous.. With the success of kessel, seems like him and pavelski really have some great chemistry there. Could nonis try to swing a deal that way for little joe ?

      • Gambo says:

Seems very unlikely SJ would move him, if they were to move him the price would be huge, probably have to include either Rielly or JVR. Anyways, Bozak’s been a 70 point player this season playing with Kessel. No point breaking up the hottest line in the NHL right now.

And yeah, I still think Weber is the best defenseman. Doughty is playing unreal though. Really might be a tie.

      • leafs_wallace93 says:

Why bother, Pavalski is playing the Bozak role where he wins faceoffs and doubles back while Kessel and JVR play to the net.

Pay through the teeth for Joe when Bozak already has great chemistry with these two.
