Coyotes Still Seeking Changes

During Saturday’s tilt against the Kings, Coyotes GM Mike Barnett went on local TV during the 1st intermission and declared that Ed Jovonoski will not be traded for any reason. Barnett also stated that he and Gretz both gave Jovo their personal word that he wasn’t being shopped.

During the post-game, Gretz stated that anyone expecting “big changes” via trade this year would be disappointed, as “players we want to trade no one wants, players we want no one wants to trade”. Gretz specifically mentioned young D-men Michalek and Ballard as two players that would not be moved. F Mike Comrie has been shopped by the Coyotes for several years with no takers.

Today the AZ Republic reported that in spite of the proclamations over the weekend, a trade between the Coyotes and another unknown team is imminent. Reportedly the trade would be for a potential starting goalie to push CuJo, and the trade could be completed even before tomorrow night’s game against the Devils. Shane Doan should be back from injury in a week or so – and the feeling is that he could be traded and rumors are rampant that he won’t re-sign in Phoenix as an UFA this off-season.

The New York Rangers aquired 29 year old Brad Isbister from the Cains in exchange for 21 year old Jakub Petruzalek and a "conditional" 5th round draft pick.  Isbister was assigned to Harford of the AHL while Carolina was unclear if Petruzalek would be assigned to their AHL farm team located in the capital of New York (Albany River Rats) or their ECHL farm team in FLA?  Isbister is expected by the Rangers to give a (Very Needed) veteran leadership presence to the AHL-Hartford Wolfpack team that has a roster filled with many very young and tallented, but yet inexperienced first and second year players.  Up to this point in the season, the youngsters in Hartford are being badly taken advantage of by the crafty wiley AHL&NHL veterans filling up most other teams AHL rosters.  Isbister should help with this problem and could also be a late year call up if injuries set in to the big club.

RUMOURS IN THE MONTREAL NEWSPAPERS HAVE IT RUMOURED THAT THE FOLLOWING TRADE MIGHT TAKE PLACE:

MTL: AEBISCHER + SOURAY + PICK
    PHO: DOAN

ALL THREE ARE UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS AT YEARS END…AND BOTH ARE PRETTY EQUAL IN SALARY….THIS WOULD GIVE PHOENIX A SOLUTION TO THEIR GOALTENDING ISSUES (AGING JOSEPH) AND HELP ON THEIR PP, WHILE MONTREAL WOULD BE GETTING THE BIG CENTRE THEY DESPERATELY NEED…HOWEVER, GIVEN SOURAY'S PERFORMANCE OF LATE, I DOUBT IT THIS WILL HAPPEN…

I've heard the Aebischer rumors as well here in Phoenix, he'd be a nice addition to the club.  The 'Yotes have played Doan at Center before, but he's a much better winger.

The 'Yotes have quite a few offensive D-men though, so I don't know that they would want Souray unless they are going to move D-man Derek Morris to another club.

What about Samsanov? Wasn't he in the doghouse for awhile?

  4. Newbreed19 says:

I don't believe the Abby to montreal  for Doan rumours. I haven't heard them anywhere other than here. Ek- has the coyotes interested in Denis also. These are both bullshit rumours as are 95% of them. Doan isn't going anywhere.

  5. Tim_Silver says:

he stil is in the doghouse, hasnt done much since his arrival, so he is dispensible…maybe, doan and morris, for souray, aebischer, kostitsyn and a pick?

who knows…what else have u heard concerning mtl-pho deals?

  6. Uncleben says:

I've heard that the 'Yotes might be shopping Nagy again.

A Perry-Antropov-Nagy deal is being tossed around.

    TOR gets Corey Perry
    ANA gets Nagy
    PHX gets Antropov
Diff draft picks here and there

I just don't see how this would benefit the 'Yotes though…

  7. Newbreed19 says:

The yotes need a goalie not a d-man.

  8. neely4778 says:

Nagy is an UFA after the season, so I'd take Antropov in a swap.  I don't see this deal happening though – Toronto is playing well, why change now?  Plus, Phx is going to get crushed 8 times a year by the Ducks as it is…why do anything to make them better?  Although Barnett has made some dumb moves before…..

  9. neely4778 says:

The only thing I have heard is interest in Aebischer, but usually no mention of what would go to Montreal in return.  The 'Yotes could use a guy like Samsanov…more than anything, I'd just like to see Comrie go away – trade him to the Habs for a bag of pucks?

For some reason Gretz loves Morris – I don't know why.  He's overpaid for his production (3 million I think), and he isn't as physical as some claim.

How about Doan, LeNeveu, and Boynton for Aebischer and Souray…and maybe a pick?

  10. PhanufRoxs says:

I think Comerie will go to Calgary.

    To Calgary: Mike Comerie
    To Phoenix: Matthew Lombardi

This would give Calgary almost no secondary scoring, but I think Suter won't realize that until the trade happens (this is speculation though).

If i were Gretz i would try to shop Jovo. He is a great player for maybe 5.0 million. Not 6.5. The He is by far the best GOAL scoring defensemen. He is very good at getting in close, and still stay open, although he is shaky defensivly. The Canucks season ended when Jovo got hurt last year, so he honestly can be a factor.

I can see Gretzky getting a goalie with not much value, but someone better then Cujo.

    To Buffalo: Nick Boynton
    To Phoenix: Curtis Jospeh

I know this won't happen, because Buffalo's playing so good, but when they cool down a bit they could make a move.

  11. Uncleben says:

    PhanufRox… do you mean Miller?

  12. Starkey77 says:

It would have to be Biron if anything….

  13. Uncleben says:

Antropov is a forward not a D man

And I agree it would be an odd move by Barnett

    ROFL
There's no *****ing way that gainey will trade a potential first goaltender and a top PP Defenceman and a pick o.O for Doan (he's hated so bad in mtl), leneveu (wtf, 2nd goaler) and boynton. Why would they want that PoS of doan, a bad goaler and another defenceman while they have 7 good+ Niniishit
