Cullen Back to Carolina

TSN.ca and FAN590 in Toronto are both reporting that the Carolina Hurricanes have re-acquired forward Matt Cullen in a trade with the New York Rangers.

Going to New York in the deal are defenseman Andrew Hutchinson, forward Joe Barnes, and a 3rd-round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.=

The Cullen-to-Carolina deal has been rumored for several weeks due to the Rangers needing to clear some cap room for efforts to sign restricted free agent forwards Marcel Hossa and Sean Avery.

Cullen had 16 goals and 25 assists in 80 games for last season for the Rangers. He had one goal and three assists in 10 playoff games. Cullen was a member of the 2006 Stanley Cup Champion Hurricanes squad.

TSN.ca, in their player profile of Andrew Hutchinson (27 years old), says his career potential is to be a “power-play quarterback”. He may be a welcome addition in New York.
