Dallas and Tampa have been exploring trade
According to Darren Dreger on TSN during the game between the Rangers and Thrashers, there is finally “a legitimate trade rumor” that involves the Dallas Stars and the Tampa Bay Lightning and apparently the Stars target is Martin St. Louis.
Dreger specified that even before the changes in management in Dallas, the Stars were already making serious inquiries trying to acquire a bona fide superstar. Dreger added that the Stars were interested in any of the “big 3″ in Tampa (Lecavalier, St. Louis, and Richards), but that “apparently they have zeroed in on Marty St. Louis” and that the curious part would be what would Dallas would be sending back to Tampa in exchange. Dreger went on to speculate that Tampa Bay is in need of goaltending and therefore a good return would be Marty Turco, in part because it would be “a wash” as far as salary.
Dreger does specify that there is nothing imminent as far as a deal waiting to be finalized and that the ownership issues in Tampa might dispel the trade altogether, but that nevertheless he has confirmed that both clubs have been in discussions prior and after the dismissal of Doug Armstrong.
