Dan Bylsma, Canucks, Sharks, Devils and Canucks talk

One of the big decisions that some teams still have to make is their coaching section. Last weeks firing of Dan Bylsma means that it is likely that he instantly becomes the front runner to coach in Vancouver, Carolina or Florida. Another possibility to coach in Florida is Ron Wilson, who interviewed for the position last week.

Speaking of the Vancouver Canucks, it has been indicated that new GM Jim Benning wants to bring in a scorer via trade or UFA. Some of the names that are set to become available and who fit the billing as a scorer include Vanek and Gaborik. It was speculated several years ago that Gaborik was interested in playing in Vancouver. If the Canucks are able to trade Kesler and a player such as Edler the Canucks could have a brand new second line. Although it has been recently reported that the Canucks want to hang on to Edler, it is well known that the Red Wings are very interested in him and he could fetch a high price in return.

Another team that is looking to make a major move or two this off season is the San Jose Sharks who were bounced by the Kings in the first round of the playoffs. Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau are two big name players who are faces of the sharks franchise who if the price is right could be traded. Although Marleau and Thornton have yet to have any post season success there are many teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs who would line up for their services.

Martin Brodeur is another interesting name that is set to become a UFA. While none of us can actually picture him in another jersey other than the Devils, it now seems likely that he will sign with another team to finish out his career. Honestly, I can’t believe that the Devils would be willing to let him go elsewhere. There is no reason that he can’t back up Schneider next season. He would be able to play 15-20 games and finish out his career as a Devil. One of the teams that is rumored to have interest in Brodeur is the Chicago Blackhawks who would love to add his veteran presence in goal behind Crawford as they take another run toward a cup next season.
