Daniel Cleary says he’ll skate with Red Wings on Friday; he has invitation to come to camp on tryout

Daniel Cleary said today that he will join his former Detroit Red Wings teammates on the ice Friday at Joe Louis Arena for an informal practice.

Where that will lead remains uncertain.

Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said Cleary has an open invitation to join the team for training camp next week in Traverse City on a pro tryout, but with no guarantee of a contract. Holland hasn’t heard back from Cleary, who hasn’t indicated whether he will accept the invitation.

The 34-year-old forward is one of several notable unsigned free agents.

Cleary turned down a three-year contract offer from the Red Wings just before the start of free agency on July 5.
