#RedWings initial offer to D Ryan Suter was $80M 13 years, now up to $90 M. Team wants to keep cap # reasonable – preferably under $7 M.
Forget it Kenny, they BOTH signed in Minnesota for 13 years/98M$ a piece.
The world is officially coming to an end.
Ya, that is insane, lol….wow $200 million on to guys…..i don’t even know what to say.
Dude i’m telling you: this next CBA is NOT happening! Imagine the level of frustration with the other GM’s!!!
Rumor is: they want a cap on the number of years for which you can sign with a team for the next CBA, like 6 or 7 years tops. Think the players are going to go for that? Half the league’s elite players are already signed long term, you think the other half will go for it? HEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO!
it wont affect the contracts currently signed so I’m sure guys like Parise or Kovalchuk wont care. Ditto for 90% of the league where this doesn’t apply (no way a guy like Armstrong or Bozak would ever have to worry about the possibility to sign a 13 year deal where the last 3 years only pay them the minimum.
The fact is the new CBA should stop these 13 year, front-loaded contracts. Either make it so that no year can pay you less than 3M or 4M or 50% or whatever than the max contract year.
Example: Parise gets paid 12M in year one, he cannot make less than 9M or 8M or 6M(50%) or whatever in the last 3 years of his deal. (of course this applies to future signings, you cannot change Parise’s contract)
A cap on the number of years is another way to go but harder for the NHLPA to agree to.
Just my opinion though.
Yeah but, they have said there will possibly (most likely) be a punishment for the teams that have been involved in this cap circumvention (14 teams according to Kypreos.)
makes no sense. You can’t start punishing teams for doing something they were allowed to do. You cannot charge people for a crime that doesn’t exist and you cannot charge someone for a doing something that wasn’t considered a crime at the time.
The NHL isn’t going to punish these teams, at best all he can do is try to get all existing contracts to count against the cap even if the player retires (assuming they don’t retire due to significant injury).
Yes, but they said there will most likely be a punishment for the teams involved in this cap circumvention, as they warned them. The total right now is 14 teams according to Kypreos.
