Wish I could say last night's game was totally due to the Leafs good play while they did play better I think the TML invested heavily in the refs retirement funds. Of course it could just be that the Leafs do know how to play 2.5 periods of penalty free hockey and that levelling people without the puck isn't interference in an alternate universe.

Let's face it the Leafs were given carte blanche in that game while the Flyers were called for every little thing early on. I saw the Leafs do many worse things than grabbing a stick for a second (including their own stick grabbing) but the refs were feeling generous giving the Leafs a 5 on 3 and later a penalty shot on a judgement call.

Should be an interesting game in Philly tonight.

What I meant with the Tampa Bay Lightning comment was simply to raise the question of the viability of the two teams in the Florida market. There are many who think Florida should have just one team and not two, and, since the Florida Panthers bottomed out this year and the Lightning look like they may make some noise, the Panthers are the targets this time, since the Lightning have "proven themselves" this time around and the Panthers have not.

However, in truth, it is impossible to judge which team is "the one to go". Yes, the Lightning are doing great and the Panthers are doing crappy, but, backtrack several years and the opposite was true. It's quite possible that the Lightning are just a fluke and nothing more, like they were back in 1996. The problem with the Florida teams is that neither have ever had sustained success, often falling back to the cellar after a one or two year period of relative success. One could declare the Lightning to be the team to stay, but then in a year or two, Florida will supplant them and then the reverse in another few years. At this point, yes, Tampa does have a slight edge, but unless they can sustain their success for six or seven years (if not more), they do not make a strong case for them to stay over Florida.
