Disappointed Esche named Team USA third goalie, mulled skipping Olympics

Flyers goalie Robert Esche is on his way to the Olympics this afternoon, but he will not be playing.

Esche told the Daily News this morning that he has been told by U.S. coach Peter Laviolette that Tampa Bay goalie John Grahame will be the starter and that Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro will back him up.

If Esche doesn’t decide too go, the USA Team should bounce on getting Ryan Miller ASAP to Turin. And if Miller should go they should make him the immediate starter ahead of Grahame from Tampa Bay. Miller has been the hottest goaltender leading up to the Olympics, posting an impressive 9-2-1 record with a 1.57GAA. And I think USA best chance to medal would be to have Miller in net.
