DREGER: LECAVALIER TO SIGN FIVE-YEAR, $22.5M DEAL WITH FLYERS

According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, veteran forward Vincent Lecavalier has agreed to sign a five-year, $22.5 million deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The deal will also include a full no-movement clause.

Flyers captain Claude Giroux told TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com that he is pleased with the soon-to-be newest member of his squad.

“Very excited, he’s going to bring a lot to our team,” said Giroux to LeBrun.

The former Tampa Bay Lightning captain became a free agent this off-season after his former team used a compliance buyout to eliminate his $7.727 million salary cap hit through the 2019-20 season.

    Bah, he’s washed up.

I didn’t comment on Vinny before because I didn’t want to get flame for saying he brings less to a game these days than Garbo. Philly still isn’t a playoff team.

I think 5 years is too much, but I don’t think he is washed up. He still puts up good numbers, but has been hurt too much the past 3 seasons. I was hoping for a 3, max 4 year deal with T.O. Vinnie would have given time for Kadri and Colborne to develop more. Now, if Bozak drops his asking price, we have Bozak as the number 1 centre for 3+ years and I am less thrilled at that then Vinnie for 3.

      I would not say that.

I think Philly is a playoff team…Cannot judge a team harshly on a 48-game schedule. Many young players went through Sophmore slumps last season, I doubt you will see it again.

It was more the constant injuries to their blueline that killed Philly.IMO Coburn played only 33 gms, Mezaros 11 gms, Grossman 30 gms, Pronger 0 gms. I think if Mason plays as well as he did when he arrived in Philly and they can stay healthy on the blueline…they can make the playoffs. Plus, we know Philly isn’t done making moves.
Although they are LH, if Flyers are more or less giving away Mezaros or Grossman, I would like to see them on the Leafs in the 4 spot. Not a popular sentiment I know, but I would like to see it.

In all honesty, with Kadri, Bolland, Colborne, McClement in the mix, why on earth are we trying to re-sign Bozak? I couldn’t stomach giving him the money he wants.
Why are we not looking more at Gordon( who has been mentioned many times) or Lapierre…yes Lapierre.lol
Gordon is a little injury prone, but is good on draws, good defensively, can chip in a little offence and should be under $2mil.
Lapierre, I know many hate him because he is a Canuck, but he is a big body, decent on draws, a bit of an agitator, can chip in a little offensively as well and should also be under $2mil.
Plus both a RH, so if needed, we could put them on the wing with Colborne and Kuli, but let them take the important draws when needed. That would make a cheap, but effective third line that is defensively responsible, but still capable of adding some offence. It would also be a very BIG third line.
I just don’t understand the Bozak thing with Kadri, Bolland and Colborne already in the mix.

Bozak’s agent (Jerry Maguire?) is out of his mind, and so is Nonis if he gives him an 8 year deal.

because we have too many bottom 6 centres/players. Bolland is a bottom 6, McClement is too, Grabo performed like one the past year. Plus, Grabo has not performed well with certain players, (he really only seems comfortable with Kulemin) and that limits him.

Also, Kadri and Grabo are terrible on faceoffs. Absolutely terrible.

The Bolland acquisition will not handicap us and give us depth, but ideally to compete, the Leafs simply can’t with that group of centres.

We’re putting a lot of hope Kadri can keep getting better, which he might, and Grabo returning to form, which he might too. But i have doubts about Grabo as likely do the Leafs Management team.

I bet its the same doubts they had of Reimer.

Hence why they are still looking at Bozak. But they will bring him back on their terms not his.

There are other options via UFA or trade. Much better ones than Gordon or Lapierre. They’re still looking to upgrade their top 6 forwards and top 2 centres. Or at least add to what they have. Those you’ve mentioned are not options.

            • realistic_leafs_fan says:

I don’t mean my options as top 6 options, which is why I said third line guys. Bozak is not a #1 centre either, he would be an OK #2, but we have Kadri who should be a #2.
Why give a guy $4mil (which is what T.O has been rumoured to offer) to be a #2 centre really, when we have a developing young one with more offensive up-side.
As for Grabo, I was going under the assumption that he will be traded(if possible) or may be bought out. If grabo is still here, are you actually saying we are better off with Grabo for 4 more years at $5.5mil and Bozak for probably $4mil in that span? $9.5 mil tied up in Bozak and Grabo? I can’t agree with that. Where does Bolland and Kadri fit in then?
To me, we would just be adding another 2/3 centre to keep Bozak and overpay him to be that.
