Ducks will look at add to blueline

The Anaheim Ducks hope to add a veteran stay-at-home defenseman by the trade deadline and will pick up their search in the near future.

Ducks GM Bob Murray has explored the marketplace and is expected to intensify talks as early as next week, when teams resume practices in the final stretch of the Olympic break.
The Ducks had been engaged in trade talks with the New York Rangers about defenseman Dan Girardi, who is in the final year of his contract and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

The Rangers are trying to sign Girardi to an extension, but failing to do so will likely result in a trade.

Girardi, 29, is looking for a new contract in the five-year range worth at least $5 million per season.

If the Ducks are unable to acquire Girardi, they will focus their efforts elsewhere.
