Ducks chasing Sundin? is reporting that the Anaheim Ducks have been meeting with Mats Sundin in an attempt to lure the aging star to their team.

It is well known that Sundin has been working out in the Los Angeles area and is set to make a decision on his comeback in the very near future. One of the potential problems that the Ducks may have when trying to sign Sundin is that of the salary cap. The Ducks would have to shed salary in order to make room for Sundin.

Other teams that remain heavily interested in Sundin include the Canucks who still have their 10 million dollar offer on the table, Black Hawks, Canadiens, Senators and the Maple Leafs.

Sundin can't go to Anaheim cuz there's too many hot chicks there and his girl friend is gonna have too much competition. Sundin's gonna go to a less exotic place where women show less cleavage.

  2. I-BE-LEAF says:

A hockey town with ugly women… why would Sundin sign in the ECHL with the Utah Grizzlies?

I think its all BS.  The Ducks not only have NO CAP SPACE but nearly their entire team is becoming a UFA at seasons end!  They cant get rid of any defencemen since they are rather thin in depth so theyd have to move a forward.  Sundin will demand anywere from 3-7 million (who knows wats going on in his mind…money or championship who knows)

Seriously tho who the hell can they move??  A Chris Kunitz?? or a Brendan Morrison?? that would be unwise and would only further screw the Ducks over when the season is done.  The only guy i could see as expendable is Todd Marchand but even at that hed be hard to move and i still dont think he would create enough cap space for Sundin.

The Sundin situation revisited.  Nice to see some actualy viable information on this.

I would not be suprised at this point Sundin signed a prorated deal of 3 mill or less.  If it was about the money, he would of confirmed Vancouver already.  The other top teams who were competing or were competing for his services have moved on and have limited cap room.

The Ducks make sense as he won't bee seen in TO next year and makes the Ducks even better.  There was a lot of talk about Sundin not wanting to play in the travel weary Western conference but I am certian that is more speculation.

Just speculation on my part and wondering what you would do if you were Gainey, what would you do if Sundin came to you as daid, i want to play for you but I will play for 2 mill a year.

    What moves would you do?

For me, drop Higgins to the third line, trade Dandy, Latendresse for whatever we can get.  Put Sundin as centre and with Koivu and Tanguay on the wings.

Sounds great on paper (to me anyway) but there is that team chemistry thing.  Even though I somehow doubt trading Dandy (who is a rotating scratch) and Latendresse (who can only score if he has someone else doing all the hard work) would effect chemistry that muhc. Who knows.  I am not a GM.

  5. Plekanec says:

But with a GM leaving at the end of the season, who knows?

  6. Plekanec says:

Watch him sign with Detroit, LOL!

  7. Plekanec says:

You are right on about what you said about the Ducks not playing the Leafs, which makes it very appealing to Sundin but I don't think he will joins the Canadiens either, it looks like Guy and Bob have put their focus on the existing team and commit to it, bringing Sundin could disturb that team and what they need is a 4th D-man, plus I don't think Sundin wants to play the Leafs all year long(if with Montreal).

But your deduction was pretty accurate and inteligent, keep that Sh-t coming!

  8. Plekanec says:

As for your comment of Sundin offering his service for 2 million/year, thats what I'd do- I would Trade/waive Begin and Dandenault, which would leave us with 2.5 to 3.5 of cap space, then I would make these lines..

    Tangay- Sundin- Kostitsyn
    Kostitsyn- Plekanec- Kovalev
    Higgins- Koivu- Latendresse

Look at that fourth line, pretty scary defensive line, the top 3 lines would be strickly offensive!

  9. cam7777 says:

    wouldn't surprize me at all…

    Zetterberg – Sundin – Hossa
    Fillpulla – Datsyuk – Holmstrom
    Hudler – Franzen – Cleary
    Maltby – Draper – Samuelsson

  10. cam7777 says:

If they sent Morrison and Marchant to the minors, they could clear enough to sign him to like a 4.3 million dollar contract…

They'd still likely have to trade either Chris Kunitz, or as someone here recommended a while back, Chris Pronger.

Neither move makes a whole lot of sense, but if Sundin would sign for under 4.3, it's a possibility.

  11. simplyhabby says:

Thanks and I do agree with you about the whole 4th dman and moving forward with the forward lines we have.

As for your next comment, those lines would be crazy sick but lik eyou said, everyone would still be looking at our D as a weakness at this time.  Its amazing how the majority of us Hab fans (me included) noted Sundin would put us over the tp and make us able to compete with the West super teams.  Now, if we got another defensive stud for that 4th spot, that would put us over the top.

That being said, even though we are 8-1-1, we need to focus on playing 60 mins of hockey.  Good teams do find a way to win but I don't like how we are winning even though that is what ultimately matters.

  12. KingCanada says:

Burke is a proud man and he works in a multi billion dollar industry. You dont just take a retarded gamble like that and blow up your team without anyone (especially the owners) to take notice. I still dont see it…

  13. GoLeafs13 says:

ya but do u mean they have to trade kunitz for sundin…because that would make kunitz go to the free agent team.

  14. mojo19 says:

Wow. Imagine having those 4 down the middle. But I wouldn't play Sergei Kostitsyn with Mats, I'd play Higgins up there give Koivu the leftovers.

  15. mojo19 says:

You're calling shenanegans on this one eh? Break out the brooms

  16. I_hate_LA says:

The Ducks' UFAs at the end of this season are mostly 4th liners and grinders, so it doesn't really matter. As long as their core players are signed like Getzlaf and Perry who are currently LEADING the league in points, they should be fine. GO DUCKS!

  17. I_hate_LA says:

I personally want to see Burke demote Morrison or Marchant to make way for Sundin. And Sundin already stated that he’s willing to take a pay cut and play for the Ducks. DO IT BURKIE

  18. KingCanada says:

Im sorry but I dont think you understand the severity lol

The ENTIRE defence corp with the exception of Pronger is UFA

Their famous checking line of Pahlson/Rob Neidermeyer/Moen is UFA

Excluding the 2 goalies, they have 6 players under contract.  The big contracts that would have to be moved in order to fit Sundin in are the only players still signed beyong the end of the season so unless they can move like 2-3 players that ARE UFAs they wont have the space for him.

  19. vzbcdy says:

WHO CARES.   I am sick of this soap opera.  Get on with reality and leave Sundin to do what he feels he should.  This has carried on WAY TOOOO LONG.

  20. I_hate_LA says:

Pronger, Giguere, Hiller, Selanne, Getzlaf, Perry, Kunitz, are all locked up already through next year and Burke is already having contract talks with the upcoming UFAs, so you're wrong whether you like it or not. Deal with it

And Sundin already stated that he's willing to take a pay cut and sign with the Ducks. He's looking for the 2-3 million dollar range type money. The Ducks can demote or waive Marchant and it's DONE!
