Dumont Awarded

Buffalo Sabres forward J.P. Dumont has been awarded a one-year, $2.9 million contract in arbitration, according to reports.

Dumont made $1.596 million last season, scoring 20 goals and 40 points in 54 games.

The Sabres have 48 hours after their final arbitration hearing with centre Adam Mair to make a decision on the award. If the Sabres reject the ruling, he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

They’ll walk away from this contract 100%. 3 million for a 20 goals scorer, Reiger should have used the Schaffer contract at 2 million to get him signed.

The GM is screwed in Buffalo, the team has a goalie they don’t want, a payroll way over their limit, and still more arbittration. He really got could making TERRIBLE calculations for this seasons payroll, Regeir and Lamouriallo are shwoing to be the worst Capologist Gm’s in the league.

I wonder how much Miller wants, he’s the teasm best player. If Gerber got 3.5 million, he’ll want at least that much, WOW.

the worst GM? They were a game out of the stanley cup final with one of the lowest payrolls in the league.

He’s stuck between a rock and a hard place… an arbitrator awarding huge contracts, and players who know this, and are making large demands.

I would say Regier is one of the best G.M.’s in league. ‘Capologist’ or not he built a very decent hockey team last season on a $29M budget.

$2.9M is way too high for J.P. Dumont. I can see the Sabers packaging him with Biron in a trade with the Blues or simply walking as no team will want him at that price.

Hopefully he’ll resign at #2.2M when he realizes no other team is throughing up that kind of money.

This is nuts…at this rate for the Bruins, Brad Boyes would be getting 4M, Bergeron 6M.

If the Sabres elect to walk away (which they should) Dumont becomes a free agent. So being that he could sign with any team, could he resign for less with the Sabres, or is this a number that the team MUST pay if they want him back?

what happened to briere, isnt he a UFA now? tsn.ca doesn’t say buffalo honored it like gomez and the others

  6. SoBaZzZz says:

I think if the Sabres walk away he becomes UFA, which means he can sign with any team, including Buffalo. I’m not sure about this one.

  7. stevenstpierre says:

I’m not 100% sure about this, but I think they’ll have 48 hours after their last player who filed for arbitration (Adam Mair) is heard later this week.

  8. stevenstpierre says:

He could sign for any team, including Buffalo, for more or less money.

  9. mush124 says:

thats exactly how its works stevenstpierre. Neways… Buffalo definetley wont sign him now making him a ufa. And on the market he should fetch 1.9-2.2 million. Not 2.9… thats just ludicris

Too bad Buffalo did’nt make it to the finals, because they will be a very diffrent team next season. They are having the worst possible summer. Good luck next year…..you will need it.

P.S. walk away from the contract and show the arbirtator he is starting to ruin hockey again.

In arbitration you cant use other player contracts as leverage and you calling him a 20 goal scorer is misleading. He did it in 54 games. If he scored 20 in 20 is he still just a 20 goal scorer? If Kubina is worth 5 mil or peca worth 2.5 Dumont is worth 2.9. Id take Dumont over either of em, Sundin could use a guy like that as his winger. Feel free to ship him to the Wings for Matbly
