I think his value shot up so high because he did so much to bring the Devils back into contention. They didn’t look like a playoff team most nights before he got back. Also consider that Richardson got $7.8 mil a year, and I would consider Elias a better player, and more important to his team. Of course, not to say I’m happy he signed for just $6 mil. This gives the team a lot more breathing room than hey would have had. If Lou can get through this off season ok, he’ll be in great shape for next season.

Leaf’s are non playoff bound again. I hear Geurin is looking for more than he’s worth. Leafs will take him on. They like pissing money away on lost tallent.

The Devils also have about 6.7 Mil on Mogilny, McGillis and Lukawich, all who could be send down, traded, or bought out.

Doesn't sound likely to be rid of Malakov's vacation money but oh well...

I think we will have most of the important guys back, that is, all of our restricted FA Martin, White, Hale, Gionta and Gomez.

I figured if Lou does this PERFECTLY, which he has the ability to do, though I don't know about the luck... we could actually bring in one more player... I would think a defenseman as most of the guys on the roster now outside of Martin and Rafalski are way slower.

We have some prospects offensivly, and I could see Tallakson filling in at some point, along wiht Janssen and Ryzner on the 4th line. I just worry about the slow defense we have...

From my "Offseason Speculation"

Elias (from Lou) $5.5-6M and Langenbrunner (whose 53 points is NOT a career/Devils high [55 in 02-03], Lamoriello will note this) will get $2-2.5M which is $16.5M minimum.

Very close with BOTH, wrong with Langenbrunner by .3M.

The Devils have put qualifying offers in front of ALL their RFA's. This includes Gomez and Gionta. The biggest concept for both of those two to grasp is the fact that, NEXT YEAR, Lou will be gaining $7.1M cap room. I believe the Devils have around ~5M Cap space and the RFA totals shouldn't come "too" close. My guess is that Lou gave Elias the "Devils Max" when considering all the contracts of the RFAs.

Remember, you are allowed to be 10% over the Cap during the off-season but must be level / under it by the start.
