Expect more moves in Toronto
In addition, Toronto has two more players — David Clarkson and Frazer McLaren — ready to return to the active roster from injury as well. Those four returnees will take the roster from 21 to 25, over the 23-man limit.
“We’re in a situation where we have to make cap space because of guys coming off injuries,” Leafs assistant GM Claude Loiselle said. “We had John-Michael Liles give up $925,000 in space, but we got Tim Gleason ($4 million cap hit), so we don’t have (much room).”
Loiselle said more moves are coming to free up cap space. The Olympic trade freeze begins on 3 p.m. on Feb. 7 and runs to Feb. 23. Entry level players can be “loaned” to the Marlies during that period, and players (like Bolland) can be sent down for conditioning purposes beginning Feb. 19.
