Expensive free agents? Not in Florida

New Panthers general manager Dale Tallon implied Tuesday he won’t sign very expensive free agents this summer: “I don’t know if it’s necessary to do that. There are other priorities now, to rebuild through the draft.” He supports signing a high-end player when a team needs one piece “to put you over the top.” . . . Tallon wants to add one or two centers, expects Nathan Horton to “take it to another level” and was noncommittal about goaltenders Tomas Vokoun and Scott Clemmensen . . . . Bill Torrey said he interviewed six GM candidates in the past month and had talks or inquiries with 63 since last year, “plus one guy who owned a Miramar pizza stand who said he knows a lot about hockey and would be available to work at night. I said, `Send me a sample of pizza and we’ll talk.’ ”
