Teppo Numminen, who was apart of the 94´ CBA says ” I’m sure, not a single NHL game will be played next season” Other players including Ville Nieminen, Jarkko Ruutu and three-time Selke winner Jere Lehtinen agree with him.

Quote from Nemo “With these terms, I’m ready not to play to the end of days”

Reasoning for this:

In the 1994 CBA, the owner’s weren’t organized and were surprised of players being organized, that’s the reason why they finally gave up.

Now eight years later the situation is alot different,

owners have stocked up money for a couple of years and hockey players have done the same.

Numminen “Last time neither party wasn’t prepared as well as now and still it lasted for six months.”

Owner´s have had there way in MLB, NBA & NFL

And in those league’s even the biggest and baddest contract´s are not unbreakable, owner’s can break them when they want. And according to Veikkajaa the owners want a 33$$$ cap and all current contract’s released.

My Take: 1994 Owner´s gave up, 2004 neither one will. Next time we will see NHL Hockey will be in two years.

p.s sorry for bad English.

It looks like WHA will be getting their foot in the door of the NorthAmerican hockey fan.

The NHL players and Owners are going to kill the golden goose.

The only problem is that the WHA will have a 10 M cap.

Will be enjoying WHA, AHL, and College hockey next season.

I really hope the owners don’t cave.

Some players will play other places, Europe, the WHA etc.

The owners will have to keep sight of one thing…

Players will go where the money is, period. As long as the owners come up a system that pays players more than the alternatives… the player’s union will eventually cave in.

Why? because for MOST owners the hockey team is not a source of profit.

AND, players have very short careers. A year or two off the average player’s career HURTS!

I say both sides give in some and this gets solved… not until we have missed at least *some* time though.

What I would LOVE to see after that is a fan boycott.

  3. LeafyMcLeaf says:

Yah I say we organize a boycott on all NHL merchandise.

Thanks for translating the article. Great job!

The overseas players will be the last to agree to a new CBA. It is very hard for them to move to North America, raise a family, risk being traded and not get homesick. Most of the Europeans have the option of playing for OK money in local leagues. They have no reason to want to return to the NHL to make the same or less money than in Europe. They probably won’t even come back to America until everything gets settled.

The Canadian and US players have fewer options and will have to deal with media and fan pressure during the lockout. They will be the ones who push for a settlement.

  5. LeafyMcLeaf says:

I am tired of the PA and the owners I say boycot of everything NHL except NHL 2005 cause that looks really cool. That other guy was right as fans we need to stop these guys. We should go to the WHA games instead of NHL. The NHL is too money hungrey. Bobby Hull has already set the rules for the WHA and it will work. We can make them the main league. Actually you know what I say we protest against Bettman boycott until he is gone and salaries are down.

  6. CechmanekForVezina says:

Hell no, I’m not buying ANYTHING. No games, no jerseys, nothing. I want this to go down baseball-style.

  7. TheCoach says:

This is just posturing by the players. We will see it until midnight on September 15, because both sides want to make each other cave. There will be no serious discussions until the 11th hour. That’s how it works in every negotiation. Whether it’s with the NHLPA or the Plumbers Union. While we could see half the season or so lost, Gary Betman and Bob Nicholson are not stupid. The league depends on casual fans, and they are already losing many. If there is a long work stoppage, these people will find another way to spend their money and they will forget about the NHL. The league cannot survive with even less casual viewers than they already have in the US, and both sides know that. I expect to see posturing from both sides until Sept. 15. This is nothing new.

However, if those 2 people prove me wrong and turn out to be stupid and force a long work stoppage, they will single handedly wreck the NHL. While hockey will still survive in Canada, the NHL cannot operate without the States.
