FLAMES TRADE F MORRISON TO BLACKHAWKS FOR BLUELINER CONNELLY

The Calgary Flames have acquired defenceman Brian Connelly from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Brendan Morrison.

The 25-year-old Connelly spent parts of the last four seasons as a member of the Rockford IceHogs in the American Hockey League, tallying 21 goals and 105 assists in 211 regular-season games.

He originally signed with the Blackhawks on June 8, 2009.

Morrison, 36, has appeared in 923 career NHL regular season games over parts of 15 seasons, collecting 200 goals, 601 points and 446 penalty minutes. The Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, native, has spent each of the last two years with the Flames, which includes notching seven assists and 11 points in 28 contests this season.

Hope this move sets something else up , because otherwise can't help but think the Flames could have got more for him at the deadline. At the very least helps the Heats playoff run.

Ya I thought it was kinda a sideways move myself based on the declaration of playoff drive.

I don't think it really hurts the Flames playoff push as he really hasn't played much in the top 6 this year. I still fully expect the Flames will move Sarich or Hannan and at least one more forward for picks or prospects. They have too many bodies with the emergence of some of the young guys that can fill the same role.

Opens up a spot for Stajan I suppose. Hopefully its more than that and it is opening a space for a move.

Connelly is underrated though. He's been quite successful at the AHL level so far. He might get a shot with the Flames and surprise some people. But otherwise yeah, more a Heat move than anything.
