Thats just speculation from thefourthperiod because Dallas was very keen on signing Blake in the offseason. Dallas was offering 3mil per and then the Leafs raised the price tag to 4 mil which then Dallas dropped out because the price was to high.

I agree. If theres a good reason for needing, not just wanting to stay, like giguere and his kids medical problems in anaheim, thats fine. But why would you not want to leave a losing team for one with a shot of winning the cup, or at least making the playoffs, where really anything can happen.

It makes sense for redden not to leave, he's on a cup contender. But isnt playing about winning? If winning isnt the most important thing, you shouldnt be playing.

The bottom line is that Fletcher has gone to Mats with a deal. Mats has to decide, and its reported that hes pretty emotional about it all. In my honest opinion if Mats dresses tonight, there is no way he waives it. If he has any intention of leaving the leafs, why would he play another game in the leafs uniform? So he can risk being injured? You could make the argument that he wants one more last game in Toronto, but lets be honest. He wont get the recognition hes looking for as a farewell, bc us the fans do not know if a deal has been reached. Anyways, my prediction on this whole soap opera:

Mats stays, McCabe goes, Steen goes, and maybe one other trade involving Gill or something. Then waivers/buyouts in the summer time to some of those retards aka "Tucker, Kaberle, and Kubina" who deny a trade to win a cup, and remain on a shitty team looking to rebuild with a fresh start. When it comes to the Leafs and their fans, nobody gives a damn about loyalty. We have had that all along, we are looking for the right players to win the Cup and clearly these guys are more interested in having a nice time hanging out in Toronto then they are winning a cup.

I say boo them all out of town. Loyalty is only good if your willing to pay the price, and these guys are not.

i am not convinced that sundin will be dealt and i have prepared myself for the possibility that he will still be a leaf come tuesday night.

that being said, i'd love to see him win a cup and bring prospects the other way.

the villification of mats sundin BOTH BEFORE and (if he stays) after the deadline by many (not some) many leaf fans will make me be more ashamed of being a leafs fan than anything else possibly could.

it would be such a huge condemnation of what it means to be a leaf fan.

i know what some are are saying though - why in the world would he want to stay? well, its hard to fathom, but i DO understand the lure of the leafs jersey ...

why are leaf fans who have cheered for this team through decades of mediocrity still cheering for them? how hypocritical would it be to crap on Sundin if he stays?

every non-leaf fan has asked me why i cheer for this team as hopeless as they have been since 1984, and my answer is the same as Sundin's. it is just too damn interesting of a team, too much history, so many aspects to this team that keep me from being loyal to them. oh i am still critical of them, but i'll always cheer for the leafs.

Possible Sundin Destinations and deals? (all of which will likely see another player from the leafs signed through next year heading out of Toronto with Sundin - i.e.: Antropov or Poni or White or Wellwood, etc.)

Detroit - I'd be asking for Hudler OR Kindl, a 1st rounder, and likely another prospect (Larsson) OR a 2nd rounder in 2009.

Vancouver - Raymond, Bourdon, 1st rounder in 2008, 2nd rounder in 2009.

Anaheim (version 1) - Bobby Ryan, Mikkelson, 2nd rounder (edmonton's) in 2008 draft

Anaheim (version 2) - 1st rounder (edmonton's), Mikkelson, MacMillan

San Jose - Setoguchi OR Petrecki, 1st rounder in 2008, 2nd rounder in 2009, McLaren
(could actually see names like Poni or even Raycroft or Kubina heading to San Jose, in that case more cap space and talent coming back the other way for the leafs).

Calgary - Boyd OR Backlund OR Irving (one of these 3 high end prospects), Warrener, 1st rounder in 2008
(likely to see White go the other way to Calgary)

Montreal - Emelin, Halak, 1st rounder in 2008, 2nd rounder in 2009

Toronto - STAYS in Toronto, leaf fans cheer him regardless for all he has done, for carrying the team, for his consistency, for PUTTING UP with the crap that some leaf fans throw his way EVERY SINGLE YEAR (many of which watch too much of Coaches Corner).
