Florida after Antropov?

Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun has reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers have been negotiating players. Rick Dudley has been told to unload salary and Yushkevich’s $2.75 million is expected to be moved, possibly to Toronto, Long Island, or Los Angelas.Maple Leafs Players who interest the Panthers are believed to be Travis Green, Alyn McCauley, and Nik Antropov. They are also interested in a defenceman (possibly Bryan McCabe) or a prospect of some kind. The Panther Players who may be traded are Victor Kozlov, Valerie Bure, and/or Dimitry Yushkevich alone or in a package deal.

OK…Florida is probably “interested” in McCabe, but they aren’t going the get him. I’d make this trade in a heartbeat:

    Green/Antrapov to Florida

    Yuskevich/Bure to Toronto

then flip Bure + 2nd round pick to NYI for Isbister

Although, I don’t think Milbury would go for it, as the Leafs are in the same division.

  2. sniper says:

typical leafs fan….I’m surprised you didn’t add Kozlov to the deal.

  3. MantaRay says:

By trading Antropov the daily posts on HTR will be cut in half.

  4. -Swizz- says:

ppl should stop trashing leafs fans..

look at the crap pavel bure got traded for…same with jagr…

when you’re unloading salary, you never get a ‘fair’ deal….

as for this deal that this leafs fan proposed…its not thaaat bad…if they threw in mccauley and maybe a late pick, it could work…..

  5. hartwhalers55 says:

Or Cory Cross for that matter…the Leafs should just reaquire and add him to the package. He’s a blueline stud as any “knowledgeable” Leafs fan will tell you.

  6. leafsrule31 says:

way to take a step in life and jump aboard the leaf bashing band wagon.. ass clown.. how many times have i heard that?. the cory cross jokes are waaaay finished with. .. whata dumbshit

  7. titans says:

Ohhhh boy! Here we go again. Where is Cory Cross anyway?

It never ceases to amaze me how the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, their fans, and even the reporters who cover them continue to over-value their players. This franchise has been unable to draft and develop talent for the past couple of decades, and it continues to assume that the less-than-average talent that it does come up with are worth more on the trade market than it actually is.

While I understand that the Florida Panthers are trying to rid themselves of the burden that some salaries have become, Rick Dudley is intelligent enough to know that he can get better quality players than:

Travis Green – Well-travelled and past any prime he might have had. A career minus-56, he is a waste of space who is not worth the fabric his sweater is made of.

Alyn McCauley – Six years in the league and still labeled a “prospect.” Has yet to score more than ten goals in a single season, and his only claim to fame is that he caught lightning in a bottle in last season’s playoffs.

Nikolai Antropov – A classic bust. Has been mentioned in every rumor ad nauseum on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. Perhaps the only reason they keep him around is because Pat Quinn and Ken Dryden keep watching the tape of the ONE good game he had back in ’99 when he notched a hat trick.

The list of sub-par players who toil for the Leafs goes on. Hoglund, Reichel, Lumme, Eriksson, Pilar, Berg, Kidd, etc. The reason why all these players are stuck with the Leafs is because no one else in the league wants them. Is that so hard to understand?

To think any combination of these players is a fair and equitable trade for the likes of Yushkevich, Kozlov, and Bure is just plain laughable. And to think that the Florida organization would be willing to take on the dregs of another franchise in order to save a couple of bucks is just as bad.

Florida is in a rebuilding stage. Teams in this situation want to set a solid foundation with good, young players who have a future, not with rejects who have had countless chances elsewhere. Foundations that are made of stone are better than those made of rotting wood. The Panthers want key youngsters like Huselius, Bouwmeester, Luongo, Novak, and Weiss to develop a winning attitude that will carry them into the seasons to come. Surrounding these promising youngsters with bad players will only set back the process.

As a Leaf Fan I have to agree, for the most part. Travis Green had his good run last second half of the season, and a decent playoff run, but this year has nothing to be impressed about. He was built on a roguh style of play, grabbing, holding, those were his only skills, now since those are all gone, his skills are absolite. McCauley, had that playoff run, but this year he get not the playing time or as good of line mates to dso it again. A new team like Florida may be a successful trip for him. As for Antropov, I always thought he was a waste of space, but this year with lack of playing of time and knee injury he has still impressed me, and has proven to me he will be a successful player.

  14. crosschecker says:

I applaud you on you insight! The leafs organization is just plain bad, uninformed, and happy with mediocroity!

  15. rojoke says:

Leafs and Isles aren’t in the same division.

And your proposed trade sounds reasonable. Although given Bure’s rep in the dressing room, I’d look long and hard before getting him in there. The Leafs are having a hard time finding a team chemistry without letting him into the lab.

  16. big_booty says:

If this horse was dead, I wouldn’t still be using the whip.

The Leafs, their fans, and their beat writers contiunally put themselves in a postition to get taken to task for their comments. If they would merely come to the realization that the team and its players aren’t all that good we would all be much better off.

When they come to the realization that their less-than-mediocre players aren’t worth all that much on the trade market, then there won’t be all that much to talk about.

It looks like this equine situation won’t be heading to the glue factory any time soon.

how many of these 10 paragraph essays do you have to write before you realize that you have absoloutly no life?

  18. leafsrule31 says:

granted the philadelphia press isnt constantly touting their players to be moved for 3 times of a better player every day.. your in no position to crack on the leafs for less than mediocre players… being a flyer fan yourself. keeping in mind that a fair number of our less than mediocre players beat the stuffing out of every philadelphia player ( cept recchi and roenick ).. in scoring and pretty much everything else. not to mention the fantastic playoff performance your superstar players put together in the playoffs.. while our less then mediocre players were playing in the conference finals.

  19. big_booty says:

Oh, I seem to have struck a nerve. leafsrule31 doesn’t like what I have to say, so he responds yet again with another personal attack. What’s the matter, couldn’t you come up with a good enough “your momma’s so fat” joke?

It seems like every time I try to be the voice of reason, you have some lame attempt at an insult directed at me. Don’t you have anything better to do with your time than worry about throwing your pathetic verbal barbs? Don’t you want to talk hockey? Or is that beyond your intellectual capacity?

    Grow the hell up already.

  20. The_Baron says:

It’s dead, your point has been made ten times over in the past. Sadly, I gotta say, give it up.

These rumours are no different than the rumoured moves by other teams on this site. All you are doing is driving Leaf fans away. Let them debate all they want, there’s too many people like you out there who just bash for no real reason, and sound like broken records. You’ve made your point, move on. Step into the light…

  21. Robert says:

lol…we goto set an age bar on this site for little children.

  22. leafsrule31 says:

yes.. how many times do you have to give me the ol.. “whats the matter, couldnt you come up with a good enough your momas so fat joke?”.. because if thats your idea of a comeback.. you need some friends.

you try to be the voice of reason?.. every single post you make is anti leaf.. and plain ol bandwagon leaf bashing. you call that the voice of reason?.. i call it you having nothing better to do.. because your a loser with no life… and no friends.. whos parents abandoned you as a child.. having to try to get through every day without killing yourself by starting meaningless pointless fights with leaf fans.. and every other person who thinks your a gay loser.

its kind of hard to talk hockey with someone who thinks hes the voice of reason by not even talking about his own team… but spending his life bashig another.

… is that beyond your intellectual capacity?.. DONT YOU REALIZE HOW BIG OF A LOSER YOU ARE???… who says that?!?

  23. leafsrule31 says:

.. and the last 2 times ive just plain left a hockey comment .. youve ignored it like a pathetic little child. because your an immature little brat that doesnt know a thing about hockey either.. and when someone totally puts you down and leaves you with nothing to say its just kicking a defenceless dog isnt it.. because you dont know shit.

    .. get a clue.

Well I agree about most of your assement about Travis Green I still feel that he brings a good effort to the ice and inspires his teammates. Also I fail to see where Green fits into your bashing of the Toronto development. If you recal he was signed as a free agent.

About McCauley andAntropov however I disagree in all respects.

First McCauley, He has not had six years in the league. Sure he came in six years ago but he also missed a lot of games with a concusion that set him back around two years in his development. If you look at the total number of games played he only has three years of experience. Oh by the way, he doesn’t wear that “A” on his jersey for looks. He earned that and when he develops he will be a solid leader in the NHL.

Second Antropov, the only knock that a somewhat intelligent person could have against him is that he has a bad knee. Other than that he has been a solid player scoring 56 points in 142 games and earning a +21 rating during that time. If fail to see how those are bad numbers who is 23 years old

travis green came in a trade for danny markov

mccauleys 26 if hes gonna develop he better do it soon.. keeping in mind we gave up doug gilmour for him.. hes been a bust

if you cant see how antropov has been a complete waste of space for the last 3 or 4 years.. then who am i to waste my time trying to explain it. i think your the first person i have ever seen in my life leaf fan or not thats been willing to defend nik antropov.. wow

  28. hatterson says:

First I would like to say, sorry about the multiple posts. When I hit enter on my computer it would send the message, very frustrating.

I had forgotten about the trade thing, but it still doesn’t have anything to do with the leafs drafting or development.

About giving up Gilmour for McCauley, I think that the leafs have the better end of the deal now. Despite how much I liked Gilmour he hasn’t been that much of an impact player in the past few years. I would much rather have mccauley on my team. He has a lot of room to grow.

I still don’t know why Antropov is hated so much by leafs fans. He is scoring at the average of a point every two or three games and when his knee is healty isn’t really that bad. Keep in mind he is very young.

  29. Tradedude says:

antropov – classic bust. WTF r u talking about. he’s 3rd in scoring with 4 goals and as a 3or 4th liner. thats amazing considering hes only played 10 games cuzz of his injury.
