Florida ready to make some changes?

The SunSentinel.com is reporting that the Florida Panthers are considering trading some of their veteran players who are not producing due to their poor start to the hockey season.

While no players are directly singled out in the article that may be up for trade HTR speculates that the Panthers may be willing to dump some of their veteran players in order to give more ice time to their younger players so that they can continue to build for the future. Although presently injured HTR believes that some of the names that may be on the block include Cory Stillman and Jay Bowmeester.

Florida should try to dump some of the guys who have been there a while like Steven Weiss. He's a good player and would have some value, but I think a change of scenary would benefit both parties. Maybe just deal him to a team for a similar player just for the sake of change. Its not like he's that young anymore anyway's.

To Florida:Mike Fisher + Brian Lee or Christoph Schubert
    To Ottawa: Jay Boumeester
Ottawa then signs Shanahan 2 year 2 mil a year:

    1-Heatley/Vermette/Alfredson
    2-Foligno/Spezza/Shanahan
    3-Ruttu/Kelly/Winchester
    4-Donavan/McKammond/Neil

    1-Phillips/Boumeester
    2-Volchenkov/Kuba
    3-Schubert-Lee/Smith

Giving up Lee for Bouwmeester would be a mistake.  Jay-Bo has had a sluggish start this year and there is no guarantee that you would be getting back something better than what you are giving.
Right now I would say Bouwmeester's stock is low though, since he is not only an FA after this year but looks lost on most nights these days.  If Fisher and a pick wasn't good enough (which it wouldn't be, since Florida would certainly hold out till the trade deadline) I say its not worth the risk for Ottawa.

Isn't Brian Lee considered to be a big bust? I don't think florida would go for that deal at all.

Haha Florida is known for stupid trades involving there best players.

    Lulongo
    Krajeck
    for
    Allen
    Auld
    Bertuzi

    Joiken

    for
    Some unknown players

So for Bomwester id say Florida would be stupid enough to go for

    Bomwester
    for
    Fisher
    Lee
    Neil

  6. TheStryker says:

    Higgins,McDounagh,Halak,1st pick in 2010
    To Florida for
    Bowmeester,Anderson

On condition that J-Bo signs long term with the Habs

They'll milk Bouwmeester for a while. Trade talks will heat up in the new year for this guy and they won't deal him for much on ice talent, more like picks and prospects.

I think they've got enough younger guys right now that they can afford to keep waiting a few more years. They'll just wait and see what becomes of Frolik and Matthias, draft another guy or two in the coming years and be a solid team 3 years from now. That's my take on them anyway but who knows.

  8. mojo19 says:

The only thing that can be conditional is the 1st rounder but looks like a pretty good deal I would say. Looks fair.

I think they'll have to bite the bullet and deal the 1st rounder and hope to re-sign him like the Penguins did with Hossa last year, maybe it will work out, maybe not.

  9. vzbcdy says:

    I like it.

It solves two of our pressing problems, lack of scoring on the secondary lines and lack of a puck moving defenceman.

I agree that the Luongo deal was a bad one, but Luongo would've left Florida anyway after his contract, so at least they got Bryan Allen, who's a top 4 d-man. Bertuzzi and Auld were busts, agreed, but Allen is one of the best d-man in Florida right now.

Jokinen for some unknown players?? where are you from? Keith Ballard is playing like a Norris contender right now and he's by far the Panthers' best d-man. He just signed a 6 year extension worth 4.2 millions per year. Nick Boynton is a solid d-man to have on any team, and they got a 2nd rounder in a very very deep draft. So that trade looks very fair to me.

For Bouwmeester, Mike Fisher would have to go the other way for sure, as well as Brian Lee, but I think Chris Neil would be useless in Florida, as well as Schubert. Add Ruslan Bashkirov or Kaspars Daugavins as well as a 1rst rounder instead. So basically, Fisher, Lee, Bashkirov/Daugavins, 1rst rounder vs Bouwmeester and Brett McLean.

The team should be called Florida Oranges.

  13. KingCanada says:

I neve runderstood why everyone is so high on this guy…  Hes been in the league for 7 years and has never had more then 48 points or 20 goals in a season!  His next best season he only scored 13.  The guy doesnt have much size eigther at 5'11 and 185 pounds.  Granted this guy was picked 4th overall but draft position doesnt mean he is a good player.

I think a comparible player to him would be a Alex Steen.  And Steen isnt that special..

  14. KingCanada says:

    To New Jersey:
    Jay Bouwmeester

    To Florida:
    Nicklas Bergfors
    1st round pick
    3rd round pick

Florida's defence will soon be exposed by Brodeur's departure.  They will need to eigther get a big name defenceman or goalie to stay in playoff contention.

  15. mojo19 says:

I agree. Some games Weiss is invisible, some games he looks like he's got some wheels and a couple moves, so I definitely think he is tradeable. He could be a good guy to move just for the sake of shaking things up.

  16. camerak says:

Too much for a struggling Bowmeester.

  17. mojo19 says:

    Jay is a stud though.

hockeybuzz.com, even though its a highly ridiculous site, stated this a possible trade rumor:

    To NYR: Bouwmeester
    To FLA: Prucha + Dubinsky

I could actually see NYR acquiring Bouwmeester though. They went after Sundin and definitly wont get him, so they are turning their attention to somebody else I believe. And Im willing to bet its Bouwmeester.
