Vokoun Available ?
Christopher Botta
FanHouse has learned that the Florida Panthers have begun contacting teams to gauge interest in goaltender Tomas Vokoun. With ace prospect Jacob Markstrom, the team's second-round pick in 2008, ready to join the organization from the Swedish Elite League next season, Vokoun is expendable.
Vokoun "fine" and will fly home with team
Steve Gorten
GM Randy Sexton spoke about goalie Tomas Vokoun's status after the game.
Sexton said that he had just spoken with the physician who treated Vokoun at St. Joseph's Hospital here in Atlanta and that Vokoun received stitches for his ear laceration -- Sexton didn't know how many. Vokoun underwent a CT scan and did some other tests to make sure there wasn't any additional damage.
Nathan Horton rumor
First the news about the Nathan Horton rumor. I hate to even give credence to a report that doesn't cite a single source -- named or anonymous -- but I know y'all are curious after the Ottawa Sun reported the Panthers are trying to trade Horton.
Panthers Stuck In Neutral
The Florida Panthers have seemingly been stuck in a rut the last 8 years. The team has missed the playoffs in each of those years and may be poised to do that again this season.
While they did finished tied for the 8th spot, losing out in a tiebreaker, they may be hard pressed to build on the solid year without their top player who left as a free agent, and once again more uncertainty off the ice. They are still awaiting to hire a permanent GM, but cannot until they resolve the ownership issues.
Armchair GM : The Florida Panthers
It seems we here on HTR spend a good deal of time discussing how to fix the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Boston Bruins. Perhaps some of us armchair GM's should put our minds to work on some other teams. After all, it is often these forgotten teams that make a big push in the off-season, and always somewhat unexpectedly. For that reason, I thought I would start with the Florida Panthers, who I believe are poised to make some big moves this summer.
Panthers- took gamble...paying off?
Prior to the trade deadline, the Florida Panthers were 6-4. They decided not to trade defenceman Jay Bouwmeester, who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and they are 2-5-3 since the deadline. Just before the trade deadline, Bouwmeester was playing very jittery and tentative and hadn't played like that all year. The Panthers ventured the theory that he was nervous about his future, thinking he was going to be traded away. So they decided not to trade him when they didn't get an offer that was worth it, thinking he would play better. But he's played worse and there's no sign of him coming out of this slump.
