Flyers could trade Roenick!

According to a report on Comcast Sportsnet in Philadelphia, the Flyers have asked the agent for Jeremy Roenick to provide them with a list of teams that he would like to play for. The Flyers are trying to reduce payroll with the new CBA on the horizon. Although Roenick is not the same player he used to be, his heart and determination are not found around the league as much anymore.

I believe that this move would be made because there is no way that the Flyers are going to be able to move John Leclair at his inflated numbers. The same can also be said for Tony Amonte. Clarkie intends to buy one if not both out and possibly re-sign them at numbers that fit the team better.

I’m sorry but we’re already going to lose Recchi, and although his age is working against him, this could severely hurt the leadership group in the locker room. Primeau right now is the ultimate leader, but who is going to stand beside him Gagne? I think not! Handzus, no way!

Unless the Flyers can pry away someone like Thornton from Boston for Roenick I think that this could be a messy situation. I know that sounds like a dumb deal for Boston, but think about it. Roenick could go home. That would be a great sell for the Bruins. He would also provide that team with some much needed leadership and guts.

If Clarke plans to bring them back after buying them out, why not try to restructure their contracts instead? Is he really that dense?

  2. greengiant says:

Oh yeah, and Thornton for Roenick… yeah right. If the Flyers wanted Thornton, they would have to include things of future value in the deal. Example:

    Pitkanen

    Gagne

    1st rounder

They could also throw in Roenick in there if they wanted to pay a big chunk of his contract, which would basically defeat the purpose of trading Roenick.

  3. ILiveOnBroadStreet says:

kids… get all the facts before you post something like this. as JR has said, its in his contract that after 3 years managment must ask him for a list of teams he would consider being traded to. management followed this stipulation in the contract, but backed off of the issue as soon as the list had been tendered. this rumor first showed up on Howard Eskin’s radio show… and frankly, the guy knows jack about hockey to start with.

  4. Viller02 says:

    I hope your right.

Id hate to have to change teams again. Although I will always be a Flyers fan, Roenick is my player and I’ll always follow him around.

IMO the Knuble signing was to complement JR because Amonte will be gone and Zhamnov probably wont return. But thats only my opinion. I wouldn’t be impressed if JR took a pay cut though…

  5. GretzNYR99 says:

Don’t Forget Jeff Carter, top prospect coveted by a lot of teams around the league. One hell of a WJC this year.

  6. Enigma says:

That’s a good point. I mean aren’t you losing more money if you buy them out and then re-sign them. Keeping things as it is, is much cheaper.

  7. Enigma says:

Apparently the teams were Detroit, Colorado, Toronto, St. Louis and Dallas.

  8. big_booty says:

Yeah, but it’s a way to get around all the union crap.

If you re-negotiate a deal to get less money, the union freaks because that flies in the face of all they’re trying to do.

A buy-out plus a new, cheaper deal means the player gets a nice little nest egg, then can still remain employed to boot.

  9. big_booty says:

As was stated earlier, this is a stipulation in JR’s contract, so everyone should just rest your sphincters.

It was a clause that was written into the agreement by Roenick’s agent when he joined the Flyers as a free agent. It gave him an “out” in case he ever needed to use it. Which he doesn’t.

As was also stated earlier, this came about because Philadelphia’s most notorious sports sycophant, an inconsiderate and incompetant waste of carbon-based life known as Howard Eskin, got a hold of it and made it public knowledege on his Dear-God-why-hasn’t-this-been-cancelled-yet radio show.

Eskin, when he’s not demeaning well-wishing fans on the air or chirping about how much weight he’s lost or selling whatever he gets paid to sell, has the most difficult of times removing Charles Barkley’s phallus from any one of his orifices.

There are decomposing turds in Al Morganti’s septic tank that know more about hockey than the ugly and tactless Eskin.

I mean, we’re talking about a guy who was once chased out of his studio with a nine iron because of an off-hand remark about a fellow radio host (who happens to be a former football player).

Edward Moran, Flyers beat writer for the Philadelphia Daily News, has already stated that both Roenick and the team have dismissed this non-incident and are moving on with business as usual.

Inhale, exhale. Nothing given, nothing taken. Life goes on.

In related news, the Toronto Maple Leafs could trade Mats Sundin. Film at eleven.

I think at least LeClair had been asked to restructure and he said no.

  11. ShadysBackRJ says:

Why Not trade to Ottawa, Roenick would provide the leadership and Hart that the Senators need so badly. Plus the sens have enough young talent that they could trade a decent prospect and a player and it woouldn’t kill the team now or in the future.

It looks like the sens are not going to sign Bondra so that will free up some money.

  12. LeafyMcLeaf says:

That is a dumb comment. Its like Detroit saying hmmm why don’t I trade Robert Lang to Colorado. No but this trade to Ottawa sounds good reasonable. EXCEPT THEY ARE FRICKIN RIVALS. Teams he is not going to are Pittsburgh New Jersey either of the New Yorks Toronto or Ottawa. Actually probabley not anywhere in the eastern conference.

  13. LeafyMcLeaf says:

    I remind you again.

Ok this didn’t get posted so I am telling everyone here. I am starting an NHL 2005 hockey pool. There is a season every month. A trade deadline on the 17th of every month you. Everyone PM’s me a list of 5 teams they want and I will post the people who got them. Sorry if you don’t get a team but you can join a teams scouting staff. The cup winner will be put on my website wich will be built later and his roster and staff will be posted too. There are no free agents and no draft just take what the team has. NOTE: Players not signed with teams will be on waivers and there will be a draft for them. Also don’t bother putting Toronto on your list because I am going to take Toronto. And leave your e-mail adress so we can e-mail you trade reports. To confirm a trade both sides of the deal must send me an e-mail. And the trade deadline is still at 3 btw. Also you tell me if you want your e-mail adress released so people can contact you with a trade proposal.

I heard that the Flyers were going to trade Roenick for Iginla and Brashear for Thornton.

That is what I heard on the radio in Penn. and it was confirmed by matteo.

  15. GeniushockeyKID says:

what are your sources? or are you being sarcastic?

  16. matteo says:

Get it right….the trade I said was Brashear and Roenick for Hakaan Loob, the rights to Ilkka Sinisalo, Pelle Eklund’s left hockey glove, Normand Lacombe’s right skate, Nick Fotiu’s cousin’s brother’s Uncle’s 3 wood, a jar of pickled pigs feet, 3 stuffed platypi, and an old 8 track of Mel Torme’s greatest hits.

Some people just refuse to get it right

  17. Furlong19 says:

I would love to have Roenick on my team. He’s such a warrior. Is Roenick under contract for next season? And if so, does he have a no trade clause?

  18. flyersfan10897 says:

you honestly dont think they would want to restructure first? because amonte and leclair wont restructure is the reason they should be leaving. they just want the extra money from being bought out. if they do go through with it, they should not resign amonte, just leclair, to around 2 mil a season. 2 mil seem low? well hell, they just would have just gave him 12 million for the hell of it.

  19. flyersfan10897 says:

well come on, is it that hard to think of 5 of the top 10 teams in the league?

  20. flyersfan10897 says:

i was following you until you got to pittsburgh. but hes not being traded anyway, so who cares.

  21. flyersfan10897 says:

hes still got 2 more years left, but id expect him to retire after that, if not before. if the flyers were to win the cup this year (yeah right) hed probably retire on the spot.

  22. TheCoach says:

If he is traded, I see him going back to Chicago. They have enough young players to offer the Flyers and are apparently interested in bringing in a big name.

  23. Keith_Tkachuk07 says:

Hmm.. if the Flyers were gonna trade Roenick.. Bring him to the Blues! I dunno who to trade for.. Dougie Weight maybe and a draft pick.. I don’t see them takin that trade but who knows.. Roenick would definitely like to dress up in a Blues uniform because he would unite with the one and only Keith Tkachuk just like the days in Arizona.. They would both preform well being on the same line!!

  24. kasparaitisflyer says:

are you really that dense ? he would do that if they would restructure, but they dont hell buy them off the team ass wipe

  25. Enigma says:

No, I was kidding, but I think those teams do make sense though. Detroit – why not. Colorado – very talented. Toronto – he’s always talked about how he has respect for the team. St. Louis – A chance to play with Tkachuck maybe? I don’t know what there ralationship is like though. Dallas – play with Modano.

  26. Viller02 says:

Why in *****ing hell would he want to go to chicago, your an idiot plain and simple…

  27. Gretz99NYR says:

TSN has confirmed that The NYR have repudedly intercepted a trade between the bruins and flyers for thorton and roenick- and have landed both players. According to GM glen sather, the undisputed king of the rink, the bruins and flyers were buffaloed into picking up two cardboard posters of the players in a mail incident arranged by the sweetness himself, leaving the angered teams no choice but to pay the salaries of the players by law and recieve no compensation, save whatever they could get the cardbaord cutouts to do. Clark has said (quote) Slats has pulled a rabbit out of his hat this time and we are at his mercy. maybe we can reinforce the paper guy, cause he is lifesize, and strap him to the net, ’cause esch is the entire reason we didnt win the cup and we r remorseful to still have the bum. Both real players will suit for the blue this year and recieve thiere pay from thiere old clubs.

In other news, C Eric lindros was reported to have stumbled naked into a bar in saskatuwan, while apparently suffering from bee stings and diaper rash. authorities arrived and took him home, only to have him been rumoredly spanked. he then returned to the sheriffs office and under further questioning, blurt. O, take me to N Y. I miss my other daddy. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  28. gr8haluschak says:

Quick laff fans here is your chance for another trade, I mean by your comments and actions if there is a salary cap the Laffs will be exempt from it, so why not stock up, lets say Stajan and a pick (don’t all Laff trades involve a pick, I mean the next time they draft is in 2013 – I guess it saves costs though, but that makes me wonder too since all these players will take less money to play for the Laffs anyway) for JR, That way you can pair him with Thornton and Shannahan. Yeah that sounds good.

  29. Shortstuff says:

dude, you are a glutton for punishment. The cheesy “laffs” or “Queffs” names are very lame. Sure some moronic nuts who obsess over the leafs ae going to make some sweet deal plans, but you are insulting the majority of toronto fans, and fueling the fire of the leaffans/leafhaters. personally,I cant stand the team. Find some other way to “express yourself”.

  30. gr8haluschak says:

Like telling you to go **** yourself, is that a good way of expressing myself ? Do I really care about the opinion of ANY Laff fan – nope, hey I am just beating them to their trade proposals and saving everyone a whole bunch of time and headaches, so shut up and find something else to cry about.

  31. Aetherial says:

    Hahahaha

I can only imagine if Roenick was a Leaf… and some Leaf fan mentioned Thornton and Roenick in the same sentence…

ALL Leaf fans would pay the price in about 200 comments about how stupid Leaf fans are…

Just remember this post… just like you can remember the WORST playoff whining I have EVER heard… from the Philadelphia fans…

All I ask is that you remember this garbage.
