Flyers would like to land a puck moving d man

GM Paul Holmgren clearly would like to land a premium puck-moving defenseman. It would be easier for him to pursue that if he could trade Danny Briere. However, Briere doesn’t want to move and has a no-trade clause. If he decided to waive it in pursuit of a better shot to win the Stanley Cup, he is highly marketable because he has a proven playoff track record (50 goals and 59 assists in 108 games). He’s due to make $3 million next season and $2 million in 2014-15. The problem is he has a cap hit of $6.5million. He would be a great fit for a team that didn’t go to the cap ceiling.
