This makes no sense right now. Why lock him up now? At least see what he’s like in the playoffs first before committing to him. Sure he did good with Phoenix, but that was the West.

  2. Bacon077 says:

Solid Dmen don’t just come around whenever, might as well keep them while you can.

  3. NiittymakiForVezina says:

I meant Calgary in the playoffs, not Phoenix.

Man Im such a band-wagon jumper lol not on canucks but bertuzzi I hated him for a month and now he is my hero how does it feel jannetty!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People can say what they want, but the Flyers have played a bit better since picking up Gauthier and Dimitrakos, and neither cost too much (i.e. Umberger, Carter, Richards, Ruzicka, etc.).

Good move. I look forward to Gauthier’s hard nosed play for the next couple of years!

Obviously you haven’t been watching the kid play… Great move Clarke! Besides signing him now saves you money. Flyers desperately need this kids physical play.

  9. UsedandAbused says:

Great Move! This kid is real solid and physical which is something the Flyers really needed. He already has some really good hits and he is going to really help Flyers in the playoffs.

  10. UsedandAbused says:

Yea… It is nice to have a guy that has been making people “pay the price” once in a while.

Well, I think the move took a lot of pressure off of Brashear. The Flyers were a very soft team and now they have a guy who will hit anything that doesn’t take 10 offensive zone pentalites a game. With Brashear not thinking he has to be super goon all the time, it seems to have relaxed him.

Any move that can make Brashear actually worth that hefty salary he gets is a great move in my book.

    Good signing.

I’m out in Pittsburgh for school and I haven’t gotten to see him play yet really except for that game when they got embarassed by the penguins. He really been putting guys on their backsides?

  13. Flyer_Dman says:

Any ideas as to how much money the Flyers gave him?

  14. NiittymakiForVezina says:

Honestly I haven’t been able to watch many of the games. Wish I could see him.

I think he’ll be a fairly valuable character guy for the Flyers over the years. Kinda like how you just knew that Sandis Ozolinsh would be a Ranger someday, I always figured that a guy like Gauthier would somehow turn up in a Flyers uniform. Sometimes a solid 3rd or 4th defenseman can be just as valuable as the guys who eat up tons of minutes every night.

  16. UsedandAbused says:

He is good… Very Solid defensively. Trust me… The more you watch him the more you will like him… Especially in the playoffs…

  17. UsedandAbused says:

Ya… He already has some really good checks… I love it… You should have seen him against NJ… I think it was Jay Pandolfo that he completely leveled… Great stuff!

  18. UsedandAbused says:

A little bit over two million a year… Good price if you ask me.. def worth it!

  19. UsedandAbused says:

Ya.. What makes him so good is that when forwards are skating down the ice they got to worry about him. I wish more of the Flyers defensemen would take the body the way he does…

  20. Flyers4Ever says:

no one else really has his size and ability to hit. Pitkanen has started to hit more and freddy meyer puts on the occasional decent hit, but we are def more of a poke check D-line. Besides for hatcher who really only clears out the front of the net and doesn’t level guys at the blue line.

  21. wingerxxx says:

I tend to think of him as Scott Stevens-lite. Doesn’t have Stevens’ overall defensive awareness (not even close really), or the decent offensive touch he had…but man, can he hit.

  22. gojiclan says:

Clarke wasn’t lying when he compared him to Kasparitais in terms of physical play, the guy is a punishing hitter, and he does it cleanly at that. Great move to keep him locked up for the next 3 years.

  23. PuckMucker says:

good move for philly. would like to see them make a pitch for Bert in the offseason.

  24. big_booty says:

    Excellent move.

Gauthier is the prototypical Flyers defenseman, and he is in his physical prime.

I didn’t like the idea of shipping off Danny Markov, but this more than makes up for that move.

Expect a similar deal for Kim Johnsson to be announced soon.

  25. big_booty says:

Bertuzzi has too much baggage and hasn’t been the same player. Clarke won’t go for him.

  26. FlyersruleLeafsdrool says:

    Definately a nice move.

We needed a “Kasparitus” for a while now.

The Flyers also have a TON of talent in the “minors”.

    (juniors,Phantoms,college ranks)

It’s a good time to be a Flyers fan, that’s for sure.

How about Recchi stinking up the joint in Carolina?

Glad Clarke was smart enough to keep Umberger.
