Forsberg Rportedly to Return to Avs Before Olympics

DENVER — Peter Forsberg is expected to return to the Colorado Avalanche before the start of the Olympics, which begin Feb. 8, the Denver Post reported on its website Tuesday morning.
Forsberg informed the team he would meet with Avalanche officials this week in Denver to discuss his return to the ice.

Forsberg, a six-time All-Star, ruptured his spleen during the playoffs last season. He missed the past two rounds of the Avalanche’s run to the Stanley Cup championship.

In September, Forsberg announced he would take an indefinite leave because he needed a break. He said he would return if he felt healthy and motivated.

Forsberg’s agent, Don Baizley, said last month that Forsberg was skating, trying to determine if he is healthy enough to play. He has fully recovered from spleen surgery, but also was trying to strengthen two surgically repaired ankles.

Forsberg, 28, was named to the Swedish Olympic team last month. He has said he’ll participate in the Feb. 8-24 Winter Games only if he is also well enough to play for the Avalanche.
