Forsberg to Nashville!!!

Sources tell TSN the Nashville Predators have agreed to trade Scottie Upshall, Ryan Parent, a 1st round pick and a 3rd round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for Peter Forsberg. The deal will not be official until the completion of a trade call with the NHL. Forsberg was on the ice for warm-up for Thursday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but he was scratched from the lineup.

Edit: According to Sportsnet, the 3rd Rounder would be conditional to Forsberg re-signing with Nashville. If not, it would become a 6th rounder. Thanks to Kamullia for pointing that out.

Keep in mind they got all this youth, + it frees up lots of $$$. Philly can go on a major shopping spree this offseason. They could be instant contenders next year. They could sign Briere, or Drury, or Gomez. Or even two of them. With the combination of some good signings and the talented youth they have stepping up, it could be a very quick turnaround.

  2. BieksaForMVP says:

Neilios you ruined it. You said a rumor that was actually said on TV, but now your acting like you normaly do.

  3. muckies says:

The city of brotherly love gets a Parent….I know what you mean by the Flyesr looking like a good young hungry team next year, but they aren't going anywhere without a goalie, if they get a Biron or Giguerre and sign Drury or Zetterberg, they could make the playoffs next year.

  4. 92-93 says:

well they certainly have the cap space now dont they … to go after that goalie and big time forward.

thats why i am so stunned by how dumb some people are … calling for rebuild this and rebuild that. in the cap era, you get rid of some cap space and have a solid, cheap young core, the turnover from a dead last year and a contender is very, very quick.

  5. TheFish12 says:

Now that is great… if a team had brodeur and kipper in net, lidstrom, chara, pronger and niedermayer on defense and crosby, lecavalier, ovechkin and st-louis up front, and finished first overall, they wouldnt win the cup because that hasnt happened in a long time?

Grow up man, coincidence, fact of the matter is being the top seed allows you to play the worst teams and that usuall leads to wins.  Dont go basing prediction on stuff like this, yo only end up sounding like an idiot.

  6. PSU_Penguin says:

    …Mike Millbury, is that you?

  7. ASPHALTKING says:

As for the trade who knows, I think that the Snider and Clarke and Holmgren marriage should end in divorce.  The fans are the ones who are going to suffer even more.  Clarke killed this team for years and years to come.  Holmgren has no clue and Hextall might be ok but i think its time to go outside the family.  Today hockey has died in philadelphia.  Who are you going to pay your hard erned money to go see,  gagne, richards, carter…. i dont think so.  They could have fixed this in the beginning of the year by bringing in a true goal scorer and faster more skilled d-men. But the management know it alls said lets keep all thoes talented young superstars they have.  Now they cant give them away.

  8. WYflyerfan says:

Free agents don't want to play on a losing club. What good is it having money and nothing to spend it on. They will over pay for a player that will have no impact for the team.

  9. TheFish12 says:

This coming from the team that once trade away Maxime Ouellet (1rst rnd, 22 pick), and 1rst, 2nd and 3rd round picks for Adam Oates!

Wheter you or I think it is too much, fact is the Preds can afford to pay it, and feel absolutely no adverse effect whatsoever, they are loaded on young D (Hamphuis, Suter, Weber, Klein, Franson) and up front (Radulov, Legwand, Hartnell…etc)

As it is now, this is a great trade for both teams, but Nashville must succeed in the playoffs for it to stay that way.

  10. Seedless says:

Zetterberg isn't going ANYWHERE.  He's already being called Detroit's next captain.  He will be another one of those players that start AND finish wearing the Winged Wheel.  Quote me on that.

  11. Seedless says:

Honestly man, I can see that you are a very emotional, deep fan of the Flyers, but don't panic so much.  This is a step in the right direction for teh Flyers.  They got rid of baggage, and came out with promising players AND draft picks.  Don't worry, you're Flyers will be just fine, and MUCH sooner than you think.

  12. Seedless says:

I think Colorado just won the cup in '01 being the President's Trophy winner.  And that team ALSO had Forsberg.  Don't bash if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure they were ranked 1 that year.

  13. Seedless says:

Forsberg looked devistated in the press conference.  I'm pretty sure you've painted the wrong picture of him.  He truly did want to stay, it's just a shitty situation.

  14. Seedless says:

Forsberg is a point per game playoff player if he's blindfolded.  Don't worry about the playoffs.  He'll be their best player for sure.

  15. WYflyerfan says:

No I don't expect that at all. I would like a good possible game breaker type of prospect. Not a third line prospect and a stay at home defenseman prospect. There is a garuntee that neither player will have an impact on the Flyers. I just wanted an offensive fwd not a defensive one. The flyers team is defensive. Hell Gagne probably won't score another goal for the rest of the year.

  16. monley89 says:

WOW Philadelphia just got like an amazing deal, Ryan Parent is an absolute jem, this guy is gonna be great

  17. kamullia says:

I just passed it on as they said in the Sportsnet 1st intermission broadcast between TOR and PHI. Don’t kill the messenger.

  18. farmer says:

As a lifelong Canuck fan, I wasn't bashing. As well, they do have some prospects starting to develop in the system with Bourdon, Grabner, Schneider, Edler, Hansen. Bieksa has been incredible, the jury's still out on Kesler and Umberger and the Sedins have finally become franchise players.
However, I also remember a long list of draft picks throughout the 90's who have made many a headache for all Vancouver fans: Druken, Holden, Antovski, Stojanov, Leeb, Allen, Koltsov, Smith, McIver, etc… And when was the last time people in Vancouver were really excited about a prospect coming up besides Bourdon? I'm talking about a Radulov, a Phaneuf, or a Kopitar, someone who was taken after the top eight of their draft but has come into their own.

  19. davey says:

The re-cap of the trade isn't totally correct.  Philly also gave up a chair for the Preds pressbox as well as a collection of suits for Foppa to wear once the playoffs start.

Good for Philly to get more than one body in this deal, I'll let the results in the playoffs sum up my feelings for Nashville's end of this deal.

  20. flyersfan21 says:

    Hey Dude,
you need to chill out. This was a great trade for both teams.
We get 2 very good prospects and 2 more draft picks.
We'll also resign Forsberg in the summer.

By the way, Gagne scored his 30th goal tonight and hr had an assist.

  21. flyersfan21 says:

    Stop your whinning.
If you don't like Ed Snider & Flyers, go watch another team play.
No ones holding a gun to your head and making you watch them.
Just stop crying like a baby.
Any real fan sees this move as a great move,
More so for the Flyers because we just made our team stronger for years to come.
While Nashville has to win now.

  23. Coleman says:

I dunno man, it only takes one guy signing on to start an domino effect. Say, if Timmonen decided to sign with the flyers and come play and live near his brother, you might see some other big names sign on.

signing a first line center is a must for the offseason though

PS- Philly won that trade hands down

  24. guinsfan4life says:

Look, if he wanted to stay, he would have denied the trade and said no because he wanted to stay. This has nothing to do with anything other than him wanting to be in a better situation.

  25. guinsfan4life says:

If that was the way it worked, then I am wrong. But if it isn't…and why would him and Ed have had these meetings repeatedly if all he had to do was say he wanted to stay? All in all, it was a great trade, I believe, in favor of the Flyers. It seems they will quickly rebound from a disasterous season if they can draft well as they've shown in the past.
Do you think Pitkanen is the next to go??

  26. guinsfan4life says:

Nashville was a contender for the cup to begin with. While the Flyers won the trade, I still don’t think the Preds are definates to make it that far.

Not sure who you think won the trade?

Man you are way off the mark with your comments! First of all Parent only played 10 playoff games last year, with limited ice time. He is currently playing for the Guleph Storm. So by saying he hasn't done much in the AHL makes no sense?

Upshall, could be a bust but he's only like 22. He hasn't gotten a great chance in Nashville because they are loaded up front.

And why would Philly re trade these picks and players now? They are already mathematically eliminated from the playoffs? Why not wait until next year to sign some UFA's.

Free agents sign for money. That's it. Why do you think Chara signed with Boston?
