The Fourth Period –

Radio station 1510 The Zone in Boston quoted a source as saying that Boston Bruins head coach Robbie Ftorek will be fired as soon as tomorrow and will be replaced by general manager Mike O’Connell. Assistant coach Jim Hughes will also be fired, but assistant coach Wayne Cashman will be retained. Mike Sullivan, currently the head coach of the Bruins’ Providence affiliate will join the the big club as an assistant as well the source said

A TFP source contacted O’Connell who vehemently denied the report and guaranteed that Ftorek would be behind the bench for tomorrow night’s game at home against the New York Islanders.

TFP was the first to report that O’Connell had spoken to former Bruin Ray Bourque about becoming the coach of the Bruins. Although TFP has not received official confirmation of Bourque declining the offer, it appears as though he has, at least for now. There were also reports that O’Connell had offered the job to current broadcaster and former coach of the year Jacques Demers, a report that Demers denied.

The crack reporting staff at TFP.com is currently reporting that sometime in the very near future, the sun will “most likely” go down.

Additionally, Sports Radio WEEI 850 in Boston is currently speculating on the return of the sun to the sky several hours later, more than likely, tomorrow.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…..

O’Connell???? Well there goes the season!! What he’s not satisfied by ruining the team from his office, he has to come down to the bench and really screw things up??

If the Bruins fire Ftorek do they automatically win the Cup? Where is Larry Robinson when you need him?

I find it hard to believe that O’Connell is gonna do this. He is not the popular choice, or even the 5th most popular choice. If he really becomes the new, or interim, coach… it will only be because he sees his GM job as being in jeoprady and is making a despirate attempt to save his own ass.

Ulf Samellson might be a better choice.

Radio staion, 850 WEEI in Boston is attempting to get O’Connell on the air to comment on yesterday’s meeting with Ftorek. Reports in local print media suggest that Ftorek, though perhaps not given a complete vote of “confidence” by O’C, is being allowed to remain as coach of the team.

Why isn’t anyone talking about Milbury and Laviolette’s (former Sinden disciples) success in relation to O’Connell and Ftorek’s but with much less talent?? Isn’t this an indicator of current Bruin’s management problems?? Unfortunately, Ftorek needs to go if only because of the team’s inconsistency. Maybe it isn’t fair, but it is the reality of today’s NHL. Nonetheless, the GM be sent packing right after O’Connell.

Take a read of ESPN’s ranking of NHL GM’s. Very enlightening.

    Debate tip #3

Don’t call your opponent names, it shows you are losing.

So Mickster… Is TFP.com still buying the Senators?

Here’s your Globe quote from 3/4/2003:

Media outlets across the city and nation in recent days speculated that Ftorek would be fired, and goodfella Gerry Cheevers put in charge, assisted by fellow goodfella Wayne Cashman, but all remained status quo late last night as the tattered squad headed out.

Do us all a favor, rename TFP.com

Call it “Hockey Trade Rumors II.”

At least here … we know it’s made up.

Keep quoting sports radio… It seems to be working well for you.
