Gaborik offered a new deal!

The Minnesota Wild have apparently offered winger Marian Gaborik a 5 year $26 million deal and are still waiting for a counter offer.

A few weeks ago Gaborik had refused any offers coming from the wilds whom had compared him to Brad Richards in the passed. With Richards big contract Gaborik believes he should get a similar deal from Minnesota orelse he would play eleswhere.

However, Gaborik states “the Demitra acquisition is a huge step. This is big news for the team. I’m excited we can step it up and be somewhere on the next level.”

Gaborik and Demitra are friends off the ice so who knows what’s going to happen.

im glad that the wild are finally making an effort to compete the nhl needs as strong team in minny

    yea seriously

I wholly agree with what Kyle says. I know a lot of people from Minnesota and you’re not going to find a more devoted and knowledgeable bunch of fans than you will in the State of Hockey. I hope Gabby stays considering the lengths that Mr. Risebrough has gone to keep him there. I really feel Demitra for O’Sullivan is going to work out for both teams, with Pavol being a guy who can step in with a good Wild squad and make them great (especially with the likes of Koivu, Foy, and Thelen being right there and ready to make an impact) and Paddy being a great young talent (as a player, and from what I’ve heard, as a person, as well) that Dean Lombardi can build around. I look at both LA and Minny being playoff teams this year.

If i were gaborik i’d have wanted out to. It’s him plus a bunch of muckers and grinders. Minny has basically iced an AHL team + Gaborik since the NHL came back to Minny and had no incentive to upgrade the team. The only reason they are upgrading now is because their only marketable player wants to leave and it would cost them money from the fanbase.

This franchise has just been a cash cow and the only thing they did wrong was not tank as bad as the penguins. They should’ve learned from the penguins, focus on offense and ignore defense. This allows you to lose high scoring games (bring in the fans) yet still pick #1 or #2 overall year after year. Cheap highend talent plus money every year. Also fans who think this year’s #1 pick will put them over the top .. year after year.

While Demitra is injury prone, the guy will certainly compliment Gaborik very well. They played very well together at the Olympics, and finally the Wild will have a #1 centerman to allow Gaborik more room when on the ice.

Power to Ottawa if they can resign Chara at $7million per. I guess the writing is on the wall regarding Havlat and Alfredsson. No doubt now that once Alfie is up for free agency that Muckler will ask for him to take a significant pay cut.

  6. Aetherial says:

    Huh?

Alfie won’t be asked to take a pay cut, nor will he have to. He will get a raise. You may not think he is the greatest captain… but he is underpriced for his production right now.

  7. LeafsLeafsLeafs says:

Its “in the past” not “in the passed”.

  8. RangerSteve says:

Why wouldn’t he? It’s not about his #s, it’s a matter of Ottawa’s cap situation and what it will be. Not to mention they’ll have to worry about Spezza too at some point. I agree with you as far as him being undervalued right now by the current monetary value in the contract, but it’s a whole new era.

  11. RangerSteve says:

I really hope you are kidding…right? If not you should have your fingers cut off your hands so you can refrain from typing this garbage. You give a bad name to objective Leaf Fans.

its amazing how every single leafs fan has downs syndrome…. poor leafies.

  13. sundin_13 says:

he’ll never end up with the leafs i know this but i really think jfj should trade antropov and a 3rd or 4th rounder to the blackhawks for ruutu

Chara is worth every penny he earns, one of the most versatile and unique defensemen in a long time. Tough one to call on what Ottawa to will do to come under the salary cap, can’t say I envy the management in dealing with so many career high years in stats for many of his top line forwards. I don’t understand why they picked up Arnason, a great player who they didn’t start once in the post-season, could have really come into his own had he had the chance. Would love to see Montreal get Arnason. Any thoughts?

  15. LeafsLegacy says:

    it will never happen!

  16. sundin_13 says:

    HABS WONT SIGN HIM

HE’LL BE IN THE EAST BUT I DONT THINK WITH THE HABS I WOULD LOVE FOR HIM TO BE IN TO BUT THERE SOLID DOWN THE CENTER THEY NEED WINGERS

  17. sundin_13 says:

    T.O. THAT IS

  18. Mainer87 says:

I don’t want arnason in montreal. He is lazy and does not have the skills to play for the habs. We want players with heart not just some guy who wants a paycheck.

  19. sundin_13 says:

WE WILL TAKE HIM IN TORONTO

    2002-03 Blackhawks NHL 82 19 20 39

    2003-04 Blackhawks NHL 82 22 33 55

    2005-06 Blackhawks NHL 60 13 28 41

PRETTY CONSITEND IF YOU ASK ME FOR A KID THATS BEEN IN THE LEAGUE FOR 3 YEARS NOT A SUPERSTAR BUT A GOOD SECOND THIRD LINER

  20. SmileZ says:

Indeed, minn. has the Canadian mindset when it comes to hockey. Good for them, although I think Gaborik is a bit of a b*tch.

  21. Viller02 says:

Theirs a little something called a salary cap nowadays. If they get Chara at 7million$ and Redden at 6.5, their gonna have to cut else where. I doubt Ottawa wants to get themselves in the same shoes as Tampa Bay and have half (or very close) of their payroll on 3 players.

  22. SmileZ says:

No Arnason in Montreal, not a Gainey type player. Bob is putting championship fingerprints all over the Canadiens now and is proving it by attempting to unload Ribiero, Zednik (unfortunately), Bulis and trading Abby for someone good (which WILL happen). As for Chara, Gainey should toss 6.6 at him for 2-3 years and leave it at that. Personally, I think that Habs should trade Rivet and attempt to sign Brenden Witt in his place. I think Carbo and Co. could really motivate that guy. Any thoughts?
