The Leafs are gonna make a move soon I think.

Merry X-mas to all the HTR readers!  And Happy Festivus too!

  2. sensnation says:

There is no way this trade happens for one simple reason, Kovalchuk would get lost.  No seriously, this guy has no idea where the defensive zone is, how could he possibly play in Minnesota.

  3. pezzz says:

euhhh….I don't know which Kovalchuk you're talking about, but the Ilya I know is one of the best two-way players in the NHL.

  4. sensnation says:

Kovalchukis a career -83, his career best is -2 and it's not all because Atlanta is a bad team, during the 06-07 season Shane Hnidy was a +15, Hossa was a +18, Slava Kozlov a +9, and this season Havelid, Enstrom, Little and Armstrong are all plus players, Kovalchuk is a -10.  Bottom line is Kovalchuk is one of hte most dynamic scorers in the game, who, if given the choice, would re-sign with a team that employs a defense first philosophy like the Wild do.

i believe this trade would benift minnisota a lot, they need a consistant scorer and not somebody who sits out 60 games a year…. i believe kovo will give minnisota the scoring touch they need, and atlanta will great a great scoring winger that wont play any games for them! espcially gaborik will be a free agent this summer atlanta will loose everything they have if he doesnt get signed!

  6. Bure96 says:

The trade makes no sense. Atlanta is in rebuilding mode, so I highly doubt they would even consider Gaborik or Johnsson.

  7. reinjosh says:

yes many people think atlanta is in rebuilding and byt most NHL fans views they would be
but the mind of an Atlantan GM different and they have different needs
the one thing they need is to keep Fans happy and wanting more
this deal makes no sense for them and really makes minnesota a much better team (there is no way Gaborik will sign with Atlanta).
dont count out Atlanta to bring in a nice number one center to pay with Kovy
watch it near the deadline or over the summer
    it will happen

  8. greatlife15 says:

Why the HELL would Gaborik go to a city where they have 12 fans per game?

  9. Radio says:

Wow, what a rip-off that would be of Atlanta.

  10. leaffaninva says:

Any player like Gaborik or Kovalchuk in the Atlanta market is a joke – considering you get more attendees at a high school football game compared to a Thrashers game.

  11. HABSSTAR says:

Ugh!  The only thing I want to hear about Atlanta is when the dispersal draft is held.

  12. Kyleton says:

    no dispersal just relocation

  13. Kyleton says:

If Minnesota makes a move for Kovalchuk it will NOT be sending Gaborik back the other way.  I can see Gaborik going to Ottawa or Montreal personally. And really if the Wild can't sign Gaborik again, they should attempt a rebuild because they have some good young kids coming into their own but their key vets are all getting up there, and in 4 or 5 years if they rebuild they would have a very stron team pending how they draft.
