Also, the thing to remember is that Burke has brought in superstar calibre players by upgrading on assets. I have always used the fact that very few teams have made better use of assets and picks than Burke has by drafting. What I mean is that most teams that have kept all of their firsts for a long time don't average getting a player as good as Kessel for every 2 1sts they keep. Burke in 3 years has brought in Phaneuf and Kessel and added good young players like Kadri, Colbourne, and Gardiner. How many other teams have managed their picks to bring in that much talent? Not many. Personally I like what Burke has done. It's not as if he has wasted assets on 30 year old guys in a decline.

Two different coaches, two different people. Eakins is highly regarded in the hockey community. Not to mention he is a carreer player who worked his ass of to make a living. Big, no HUGE difference.

That comment about Eakins is the same thing they said about Maurice when he coached the marlies and he was awful with the leafs. Eakins would be interesting though.

Honestly i would have prefered he be Eakins co main man this season. he is a better coach then Wilson for young players, IMO. That he is going to be the 3rd line centre does nothing for me. I am more interested in seeing franson play relaxed hockey.

While I'm not exactly the biggest Gagner fan, I know when Burke goes after a player he's rarely wrong. On the rare occasion he has been wrong, he's been able to still maximize the players vale.

Van Ryn, Toskala, Raycroft were all pre Burke. Stajan was a holdover and Burke easily maximized his value in his best year. Brunnstrom was nothing more than a depth move for the Marlies. None of those examples are good ones.

Lupul, Lombardi and Phaneuf are examples and ones that have worked out damn well.
